Requirements for web server when using web.pb???

We are looking at using web.pb for a project. I know that the distributed
app will need to be on a NT or 95 machine but does it matter what kind of
box the the web server is on. Can the pbcgi050.exe be on a web server that
is on something other than windows 95 or NT?

Thanks in Advance,
Jason

Hmm, that's a good question....my guess is that IIS, Website etc would
only run on NT/95 platforms. What platforms were you thinking of?

Well, to be completely honest I don't know a lot about different types of
web servers. The application that we are planning on building will be
something that we eventually sell to other companies. This is why I was
woundering what the requirements were for the web server so that we would
know what market we were limited to. I didn't want our sales guys telling
everyone that it would work on any server and then find out that it didn't.
Does anyone know if there are web servers that can run on a UNIX box and
support standard CGI?

With PB 5, you will only be able to use NT or Windows 95. This is
because the pbcgi050.exe will only run on that platform. There is a
beta version for Solaris, but it won't be GA until PB 6 for Solaris is
released. I believe that all Unix flavors supported by PB 6 will also
support web.pb.

As long as your web server supports CGI (and it would be a pretty
lousy web server that doesn't) then you should be able to use web.pb
(given the above restrictions).

In addition to Dave's comments if your web server is Unix you will
need to purchase PB for Unix. There is a licensing issue right now
with web.PB that requires you to purchase the Unix version of PB.

PB Web Application and Web Server Setup
Is there anywhere I can get information on hardware/software logistics of putting a Web PB app on the internet? Being new to the distributed pb and web pb development, we are trying to get our feet wet, working with Cervenka's book. We will probably start with an intranet app, which may include remote clients using Novell's Netware Connect (over phone lines). Right now, most of our questions deal with the hardware/software setup of the server pieces and I understand there are many different possibilities. Eventually, we want to put an app out on the net. Traffic will be li...
