debug log / w_main

Is there any particular reason why pfc_w_debuglog and pfc_w_sqlspy are
inherited from w_main instead of w_master? (in PFC 5.00.03 at least)

If a developer modifies w_main, it tweeks the debuglog and sqlspy
windows as well. Since there is no extra functionality in w_main, I do
not understand why the pfc_w_debuglog and pfc_w_sqlspy don't inherit
from w_master.

It was my understanding that w_main was 'reserved' as the main window
for SDI applications...

It's my own understanding that w_master is the 'type-less' class. The
window classes that have types (e.g., main, response, child, etc.)
inherit from that. So you should always be inheriting from one of the
'typed' window classes, not directly from w_master.

To PFC or Not To PFC
I'm returning to PB development after about 7 years in management and I'm trying to figure out how PFC fits into the current PB world. I used it with 6.5 and thought it was great (though sometimes a little complex, especially when debigging). It seems that Sybase doesn't push it anymore and I think I saw a post that said it hasn't changed since 8.0(?). I'll be developing an app for commercial sale and I think PB is perfect since I think I can get more done in a shorter period of time with PB than with anything else. I especially like that PB's future leads...

debug log
I'm trying to implement Sun's Message Queue with ASA 9.0.2. Sun Message Queue is dying while doing an insert. Is there an option I can set in Sybase that will show the the attempted SQL in some sort of log? I think the problem has something to do the jdbc driver and having a log would help to narrow it down. I translated the transaction log, but that did not show anything. Preston The "request level log" is what you want. To start it, from dbisql... Logged In As: Not Logged In
I installed ZCF 10.0.1 on a Win 2K3 server and when I install the ZEN client on a workstation the ZENWORKS client login comes up and I cannot log into it. It shows me the realm name of my tree and Zenworks Zone and I have tried both to no avail. When I look at the details of the adaptive agent it says, "Logged In As: Not Logged In" Any ideas? Debug Log
I can't seem to get the Debug Log to display anything; I set up its options and have it open when my program is running, but when the program exits the Debug Log is still empty. I know you need some sort of network support; I have Dial-Up networking installed (Win95), and I know the Debug Log used to work for me, but for some reason it doesn't do anything now. Any ideas? PFC ? Not PFC ?
I am about to start a very big application and would like to know whether to use PFC or not. Is it not a good idea if we are only using a very small portion of the PFC functionalities? What are the benefits of using PFC? What are the disadvantage of using it? We already have development problem because it is too slow to bring up the object and window list in the dubugger. Please advise. loser , To Use or Not to Use? I dont have an answer for you there but, a solution to your speed of the debug issue is the following. We have found that keeping copies of the PFC, PFD, and PFE p...

Logging log
Hi! I try to accomplish task described in http://forums.novell.com/novell-product-support-forums/zenworks/configuration-management/zcm-server-install/422609-mixed-login.html?pagenumber= and wonder I don't know how to keep log of logging? I mean, does ZCM is capable to keep logging log? As Altiris NS does? How to debug with PFC
Hi, there I found it's very defficult to debug with PFC. I was doing PFC tutorial shipped with PB 6.5. I could open the frame window and connected to the database coded in pfc_postopen. However, when I try to open the w_product and w_sales_report, I got database error. The error message is something like:"Database error -1. Call SetTrans or SetTransObject function.". I coded this.of_SetTransObject(SQLCA) in the datawindow constructor event. When I put a stop point at this I got so many code running behind it but I didn't get the error message. I was confused...

To log or not to log
Hello foremen, on a large database, trillions of SELECTs and DELETEs are going to be performed. After that, the database is going to be unloaded. The database uses a transaction log. Should I keep the log there along this process or "unmount" it after some parts of it (or even before the beginning)? In this case, nothing but the speed is important. The database is ASA 7.0.4.3498. Thanks Pavel LOG... ALWAYS LOG. Performance is dependent on the use of the log. Recommendations: 1) Ensure that the file system is not excessively fragmented 2) Host the db f...

debugging pfc
Hello. I'm trying to debug the pfc database connection our app is using. So far this morning I've had about 8 dr watsons. I'm using nt4 sp6 with pb7.0.2. Is this common behavior for powerbuilder? I can't determine anything. This PFC code seems to be more trouble then it's worth. D PFC is just PowerScript and objects. PB doesn't treat it any differently than if you had written the code yourself. I doubt PFC has anything to do with your problem. You should probably look at some basic problem resolution approaches, like: - Full Rebuild (menu option,...

Debugging: Application Log
Does the PB debugger have an option to generate a log of events, functions, and scripts run in the app? In other words, is it possible to create a file that would reflect the order of scripts run during execution? Something like w_example: constructor dw_1.constructor dw_1.pfc_retrieve() w_example.of_example(al_retrievedrows) etc. Just curious. debugging PFC apps
Is it impossible to debug PFC apps? I seem to get bogged down forever in the swamp of pfc functions that I don't really want to look at but get triggered in my app. No matter how what I do I can't seem to Step Out or Step Over all the billions of iterations of the Activate event of pfc_w_master, pfc_w_frame and pfc_w_sheet, etc. that debugging takes me unwittingly into. Thanks for any ideas... Whenever the Activate event shows up, hit Continue. Not sure why, but this will stop back at wherever you were in the script you intended to debug! Step Out/Step Over won't help...
