I've just heard that Sybase may be dropping PowerBuilder in the future, has
anyone else heard something similar.

I really hope that this is just a rumour, as it's such a great product.

Cheers

Probably from a consultant who wants to sell you a conversion, or doesn't
want to use PB because it is so productive that it would cut down his
billing.
Version 10.5 just shipped, 11 is in alpha testing, features for 12 are on
the drawing board. Doesn't sound to me like a product that is anywhere near
being dropped. Maybe in 2025 or so when AMD announces the telepathic chip
that will eliminate all programming?

I heard that!

I heard it 10 years ago.

I heard it 9 years ago.

I heard it 8 years ago.

I heard it 7 years ago.... <beg>

Meanwhile, among *credible* sources, I see Sybase doing a major reinvestment in
PB to make it a .NET tool for PB11 (something that, IMHO, obviously won't pay
off in the first version, but is an "over time" investment) and have heard some
of the plans for PB12 (but beyond what's in the Futures section of my web site,
as my friend in military intelligence used to say, if I told you anything, I'd
have to shoot you after... difference being, *he's* a more credible threat
<bg>).

So, you can stop listening to the bitter Delphi people. <g>

Good luck,

Dropping Distributed PowerBuilder Support in PowerBuilder 8.0
I heard a long time ago that distributed PowerBuilder support was going to be dropped in PowerBuilder 8.0 in lieu of using EAServer. Is that true? When is PowerBuilder 8.0 coming out. .NET PowerBuilder Support
When does Sybase plan to support .NET objects in PowerBuilder? We already use PowerBuilder 7 to create COM objects and have successfully deployed them on MTS and called the COM object functions from ASP pages. As a software vendor of library information systems our clients aren't interested in purchasing Jaguar when they can run our web applications on Microsoft's IIS/MTS for free. We are planning for the next generation of our web products and have a dilemma. We have already invested 5 years into writting PowerBuilder C/S Windows and ASP/PB COM web applications. I...

Does PowerBuilder support ISimpleFrame
I try to use the FarPoint Tab Pro object into a PB7.01 app.. I can't attach child control to the tab control. I contacted FarPoint and the answer was to check wether PB supports container controls (ISimpleFrame) because Tab Pro uses ISimpleFrame. This is what allows you to draw a child control on Tab Pro. Does anybody knows it ? Thank you, -G According to the InfoBase, support for ISimpleFrame was added starting with PB6. PowerBuilder and Vista Support
Is there any 'offical' statement yet regarding which version of PowerBuilder will be supported on the Vista OS? I've seen some guesswork type statements from here and there but not anything solid.... Anyone really know. We need to migrate to the Vista platform real soon and although 10.5 seems to work fine, I don't want to deploy something that I'll regret later. PowerBuilder 11 will support applications running within the Vista environment. Taking advantage of Vista features will be in a post-PowerBuilder 11.0 timeframe. -- John Strano Sybase Technolog...

Powerbuilder and DBLIB Support
Is version 9 the last version to support DBLib (or MSS Native)? We'd like to upgrade a 7.0 system to the lastest and greated, but 10 doesn't appear to have DBLib installed (or its not in the Eval version anyway). DBLIB was feature frozen in MSS 6.5 and all new client functionality was exposed on OLEDB, ODBC, and .NET based drivers starting in MSS 7. MS is dropping (or has dropped) DBLIB in MSS so even if you had a DBLIB based driver, newer MSS versions cannot use it. PB9 is the last version that will ship a driver that uses DBLIB. -- Chris Keating Sybase ...
