PB 8.0.02 Build 9506 and Incremental Build - not working?

Did anybody experience the incremental build not working or is it just slow
in PB 8.0.02 Build 9506. I just completed my native and full build then
edit one object then rebuild incremental. It took the same amount of time
to full rebuild. (All .dlls and .exe are there)

It didn't happen in PB 8.0.01 build ????. Need clarification.

Have you done a full build since moving to 8.0.2?

I just upgraded and had a strange problem (non-dw objects on a non-local drive
taking forever to open) that went away after a full build.

Good luck.

I noticed this too. I changed one DW and it recompiled EVERYTHING.

I did this a couple of times. I have a PFC app and it's
not unusual for an incremental to include tons of objects,
but once I was watching carefully and now indeed, it seems
to be doing a FULL BUILD or nearly so each time.

Actually, it's probably better that way because it cuts down
on the GPFs. I never really had any faith that it could
properly manage an incremental build in the past, so I won't
complain this time.

Maybe it's in tandem with the little blue ball that tells you
if it's safe to open up another painter!!!! What a great idea.
Better than getting nagged for LOW ON RESOURCES. Similarly,
I'd rather spend 20 minutes compiling than an hour debugging
because an incremental build wasn't quite enough.

Yes, I full rebuild it first then build incremental.

That's true. So it's better off full rebuild until Sybase fixes it.

Don't forget that it's not just the one object that needs to be
rebuilt. It's all objects that have changed, all descendants, and all
objects that reference them (then, the algorithm is recursed to
rebuild the descendants of everything that was just rebuilt, plus
everything that represent them...). So, changing an isolated piece may
cause a small incremental rebuild. Changing something in PFC's n_tr
will likely cause everything to be changed, since everything probably
references SQLCA. (Plus, in my theory, an incremental rebuild that
includes everything is slower since it has to go through the above
algorithm to identify the list.)

So don't toss out the incremental build quite yet. It probably still
has it's place.

Good luck,

but build 9506 seems to rebuild (almost?) everything even if you've changed
just a dw, which definitely shouldn't happen.
Mind you, I've never trusted incremental rebuilds and always do a full build
anyway.

PB 8.0 (build 8004) and PVCS (Version 6.8 build 128)
Hello all, Since we are leaving Powerbuilder and starting all applications using .NET, I shouldn't even be worried about this, but would like to know regaurdless. Other then PVCS being very SLOW, it does work when needing to check objects (Windows, datawindows, menus, etc.) in and out. Like to "see" the differences between them and this works pretty well. Now what about the PBD's ?? I have them in PVCS and they update with version numbers, but how do I know that the changed copy is being saved in PVCS ?? (since the PBD's can't be compared) Also, we trea...

PB 8.0.3 Build 9704 AND VSS 6.0 Build 8987
We are currently moving our application from PB 6.5.1 to PB 8.0.3 Build 9704 and plan to use VSS 6.0. The biggest issues that I am facing now is that when one user creates a new object and adds it to source control none of the other users are able to get that object. I've tried GVL and also REFRESH on the PBL from the library painter and neither are working. I've also gone into VSS and gotten the latest version of that PBG file and then tried a GVL and it still doesn't work. I've read through the other threads listed here and noticed before that someone had ...

PB 8.0.2 Build 9506
Here's another one - when I open PB 8, I get a messagebox that states: "Could not instantiate the Web Target Applet Info Java class. This is most likely caused by not having the Microsoft Java VM installed. After this VM is installed through the 'Custom' install in IE, this message will not be displayed again." The other developers on my team do not get this message when they open PB 8. I assume the reference to "IE" is Internet Explorer. I was running version 6, and the others on my team were running version 5. I could not find a '...

Is it a good move ? I use PB 7.0.2 C3 Build 8047 on Windows NT 4 sp 6a, but I want to move to Windows 2000 soon. I read than only the version 7.0.3 and above are Windows 2000 compilant.
