Calling Java Methods from PowerBuilder

Need some help on Calling NVO's methods built using Distributed PB from
Java Application.

I have created a simple PB Distributed Application which has one NVO and
one method. The method inserts some values in the Database.

I want to call it through JDPB_Connection. From the Technical Document
"Generating Components with PowerBuilder" I learnt that I can do that
directly.

I have unzipped the Jar file also. The Proxy Object created by PB compiles
fine but when I run the Java Code I get the error "NoClassDefFoundError
:com/objectspace/jgl/Container".

Do I have to install the Jaguar or start the Jaguar for that?

Is the any proper documentation on this?

Raju

You are confusing two different concepts. You can build Java Proxies
to a Distributed PowerBuilder application OR you can use EAServer, but
they are two distinct architectures. Since DPB is being phased out,
I'd suggest going the EAServer (aka Jaguar) route, but what you are
doing with DPB should work. It really sounds like your classpath
doesn't include ..\Shared\ObjectSpace_JGL\lib as those classes are
part of the jgl3.1.0.jar file.

Calling Java Methods like byte[] method(byte[]) from Rhino?
Hi all, I'm using Apache Commons Codec which take/return byte[] for the methods I need. I didn't come up with a more elegant way than that: importClass(Packages.org.apache.commons.codec.binary.Base64); String.prototype.encodeBase64 =3D function() {=20 return java.lang.String(Base64.encodeBase64(java.lang.String(this).getBytes())) ;=20 }; What I want is to getBytes() from a JavaScript String and return a new one. Is it possible to getBytes() from a JavaScript String or create one from a byte[], avoiding the java.lang.String construction? Regards Johann ...

Performance of calling external Java method as compared to native Java
Folks, I am looking at embedding the Rhino JavaScript engine in a product. To that end, I have been examining performance capabilities. I have a Java class called "A" that has a method called "callMe" that takes a string as a value and does nothing with it. In JavaScript, I have the following: var i; myA = new A(); for (i=0; i<2000000; i++) { myA.callMe("Hello"); } In Java, I have the following A myA = new A(); for (i=0; i<2000000; i++) { myA.callMe("Hello"); } In JavaScript, the code takes 3578 milliseco...

If not, is any way to migrate PB to Java application? Could you give me urls for tutorial and EAServer trail version? Advanced Thanks for yor help. Calling Java from PowerBuilder???
We are planning to redesign our PowerBuilder application to a pure Java solution. Both applications, the PowerBuilder application and Java application, will be running concurrently during the redesign but we plan on disabling functionality from a modular level in the PowerBuilder application as it is redesigned and deployed in the Java solution. As the modules are redesigned can the new Java modules be called from PowerBuilder? This way the transition will be seamless to the user and we our maintenance gradly shifted to the Java solution. Thanks in advance -- Peace, Mic...

Calling Java from PowerBuilder
Can you invoke/call methods in Java classes from PowerBuilder, and if so how?? You have to wrap the Java class in COM object. For that, you can use tools from MS Java SDK or the ActiveX-Beans bridge from Sun. Check my Java How (URL below) in the General part 3 -> "Wrap a Java class in a COM object" for a simple example. EAserver to Easerver calls
We have a central server that makes calls to other jaguar servers located on different machines. If the calling component uses transactions, then whenever it connects to a component on another system we get errors in the server log in regards to invalid transactions (see below for actual error) on both the calling and called servers. These errors cause a rollback in the calling component. The code in the called component executes properly. If we set the transaction type to 'not supported' all works well, but we lose the ability to take advantage of EAServer's transactio...
