"Bad Unicode escape sequence" error compiling JagMan generated (off-PB) Java file

Hello everyone.

While using PB components from my EJBs, I've been having the following
problems while compiling the off-PB Java code:
Here goes the snippet of the compiled listing with error
<<
package com.bny.sga;

/**
 ** Generated by Jaguar CTS 3.5 - Wed Mar 22 16:17:34 EST 2000
 **
SC-6 Bad Unicode escape sequence.
 **   from Sga::u_report_retriever (file D:\Program Files\Sybase\Jaguar CTS
3.5\Repository\IDL\Sga\u_report_retriever.idl, line 31).
 **
 ** Please do not modify this file.
 **/
 . . . . . . . . .
>>

There was a workaround, sure. I could add a copy of the JAVA file to my
target and modify THAT COPY only (in particular, deleting the offending
comment line).

Had that not been an issue I could simply add
%Jaguar%\html\classes\MyJavaPath to the compilation path and have my targets
much thinner.

Is there a cure for this problem?

Thanks,
Victor

This is a bug in the JavaSoft compiler. The problem is that our comments
list the path to your NVO and are something like

......\uo_

The compiler interprets the \u as a unicode character, even though its in
the comments. All I can suggest is either changing the name to not start
with a u, or editing the generated stubs to remove the \u. We have changed
our generators to use forward slashes now to avoid this JavaSoft bug.

Java errors "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.AbstractMethodError"
I'm trying to run APC network shutdown software and I keep getting the Java errors when trying to launch the application. I can install the app just fine. I am running Java 1.3.1.10. I have 2 Novell servers (1 has Netware 5.1 and the other Netware 6). They are both giving me the same error. On the Netware 6 server I installed SP5 and that didn't help. I also tried re-installing the Java on both servers and that didn't help. I was told by APC that something must have modified the Java and that's why it's not working. I tried to fresh install Netwa...

Hi,  I created a Webservice, which sends emails of a filled form. Offline I have no problems to get it to work, but when I put my website online I get "Compilation Error Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type "'ws.Email'  is not defined." It seems it can't find the webservice anymore, although I added the webreference (which worked fine) before I put the website online (with dir App_WebReferences -> ws -> Email.wsdl,...)  This is the code which requests the webrequest:Dim SendEmail As New ws.Email() SendEmail.Send_Mail(code, 2, TextB...

Is "DBSC" the same as "unicode"?
In this case the first few hits in Google weren't helpful to me. TIA LAS DBCS "Double Byte Character Set" is a character encoding scheme for East Asian languages (Japanese, Chinese, Korean) that came out before Unicode. Some characters are single byte and some are double. PowerBuilder 10 and higher use Unicode for strings. Just use the normal forms of the functions. Hi Laurel; AFAIK - DBCS (I think you meant to say) is ANSI based double-byte that uses the escape code (like UTF-8) where as Unicode is the full two bytes (32 bits) for each chara...

Attention all "GW6" "grpwise.exe has generated error" admins
Hey everyone! I am also having the same issues as you and have been fighting them for months. I think if a few of us get together and compare fixes, maybe we can figure this thing out. If not then maybe we can open a generic incident with Novell to make them aware of the issues on a more global scale. If you are struggling with these issues, or had been struggling and have found a fix email me at lardens@bennettjones.ca and I will try to get us all together to discuss. It is difficult to open an incident with Novell on this as the problem is pretty intermittent, but ...
