Editing PB Component Properties adds com.sybase.jaguar.component.iso_level property

Whenever we use Jaguar Manager (EAS 4.2.2) to set a component property
on a PowerBuilder component the following property is appended
automatically:

com.sybase.jaguar.component.iso_level=serializable

From what I read on a Sybase document the property creates problems.
Anyone experiencing this?

TIA
A.

From the doco it should only be applicable to EJB 1.0 components.

Couldnt paste from the JagMan Help so have attatched a small screen grab.

This has been an issue in the past with even Java/COBRA components. It was
registered as a bug then fixed some time ago. If it's back again, it needs
to get reported.

Yep.. have been testing this all day in the hope it is the cause of my
load testing problems and since setting the iso_level to "read
uncommitted" I have noticed no problems... Thanks Aggelos for posting
this issue and pointing me in the right direction.

That sounds about right. This is the exact kind of effect this has on apps.
Basically creating database bottlenecks all over the place.

You gonna report it?

And then *they* end up spreading rumors that EAS is slow ... Anyway, I
must admit that Sybase put a note on Performance and Tuning Guide in
EAS5.0 about this (p.107) and on several previous release notes, but
they never said that modifying properties could have this side effect.

When I change a single property in JagMan I do not want numerous other
properties introduced or changed all over the place, without, at least
knowing! Am I asking too much? :-)

I'm about to check it on EAS5 ...

Thanks

The Jag Man problem is the real issue. This was a problem years ago but was
fixed. Clearly it's come back. Definitely something for everyone to watch
our for.

Has this been reported yet? Otherwise I'm going to report it.

Thanks,

Carson

Bottlenecks??? Try cement slabs in the database!!! we couldnt even get
10 concurrent users on a system we previously load tested at more than 200.

Yes... had to travel interstate today but was planning on raising it...
still shits me a little that the doco says one thing but the product
does the opposite... if it wasnt for Aggelos's post I wouldn't have
thought to revisit the iso_level attribute which I do remember being a
problem back in 3.6... I do still love sybase though <bg>

I remember it being a real killer. Not surprised to hear that it was
causing you serious problems.

Since you're both EAF customers, it makes sense to let you know that we have
a new web management interface that will begin to eclipse the need for Jag
Manager for just about everything.

It's in the system now, the case from 3.6.1 was CR 239613, so this
appears to be a regression, which means it will take on the highest
priority here and I've already forwarded it to engineering.

In 4.2.2, I see the problem when changing a property but not when
deploying (importing) from a Jaguar JAR file. In 5.0, the property is
added just by importing the component from a JAR file. I'm presuming,
but didn't test out, that it also does the same thing as 4.2.2 when
you change a property.

Jim,

Thanks for taking care of researching it and getting it in the system. MUCH

Actually, you haven't seen what I'm talking about. Totally revamped admin
section...first rev with UI for all of the services, etc...second version to
replace Jag Mrg including all of the component properties...not just EAF
stuff.

Deleting the iso_level from props has no effect, it just appears again
without having edited the component.

Any chance you know what the other values are other than serializable?

The help lists the options but since the first documented option is
"Serialized" but the component defaults to "Serializable", I am not
confident the others are correctly documented.

From a quick look at the code, the default value (which is also
assigned if the property is not present) is the string "undefined".

I'm having trouble finding thes specific strings for all the options,
but from looking at the enums used, I suspect the following, in
addition to "undefined":

read_uncommitted
read_committed
repeatable_read
serializable

If the documentation lists serialized vs. serializable, would you mind
opening a case on that so we can get the doc fixed?

Thanks.

Thanks Jim, will open a case on the doco errors as they dont list any of
the other options with "_" either.

Inspector component for TDictionary values? (not component properties) [Edit]
I would like to hear suggestions to show and edit the contents of my TDictionary in a Inspector fascion. Some values are multiple-choice (TComboBoxEx?), some are free to edit (TEdit?) and some are multiline (TMemo?). I want my software to show these in a list, like the IDE Inspector does. But using an inspector, like TJvInspector is not suitable because there is no object to inspect. With the list of fields being unique i ofcourse can not implement all possible properties. Actually also TComboBoxEx is underfeatured, i want it to be able to show columns and images. > {quote:title=N ...
