Performance issues after upgrate ASE 11.5 to ASE 12.5
How can we improve performance?
We're moving a database that was operating fairly well on a HP-UX 10.20 with
Adaptive Server Enterprise v. 11.5 (32 bits) to a HP-UX 11.0 with Adaptive
Server Enterprise v. 12.5 (32 bits)
Our problem is the slower performance of the database on the new, more
powerful and faster machine with newer software (in both operative system
and sybase version)
We've noted that it starts really fast but slows down gradually.
Weve tried many ways to improve the performance:
-Increase the max memory.
-Increase the number of engines at startup...ASE 12.5 vs ASE 11.5 performance issues
Again my question is about performance of ASE 12.5 against 11.5.01
We have a huge production client-server application running on W2K server
with ASE 220.127.116.11 database (more than 400 tables, 2000 stored procedures).
The database was placed on raw disk partitions (no RAID) and split between
different physical drives as follows: data, log, tempdb and master database
are located on different drives.
We have two PIII, 1GHz, 1 GB of memory and give 800MB for ASE. We create
separate tempdb cache and bind tempdb to it. Database was bind to default

We are in the process of planning the upgrade of our ASE
12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x. What is the most
recommended way to upgrade ASE dataservers from ASE 12.5.4
to ASE 15.x?
1) Install new instances of ASE 15.x and load database
dumps from our ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to the newly installed
ASE 15.x dataservers.
- OR -
2) Use the ASE upgrade utility (sqlupgrade) to upgrade our
existing ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x.
What are the Pros vs. Cons for loading a 12.5.4 database
into a 15.x ASE dataserver versus performing an ASE

I am planning the migration from Sybase 11.5 to 12.5. Can someone point

I am particularly interested in documents that explain the best way to
migrate database objects (tables, indexes, etc...) and data.
Thanks in advance.

We have migrated one of the Sun boxes running ASE 11.9.2 on
Solaris 2.8 to ASE 220.127.116.11 ESD#3 .
We did a inplace upgrade. The "sqlupgrade" utility did all
pre-checks and came out clean and did the migration and it
came out with a "Done" message. But it gave a message saying
the server couldnt be brought up, and seeing the error log
we have seen the shared memory was a problem and we chaged
value and the server came up fine when we brought it up
manually using the 18.104.22.168 binaries.
Few issues which are stopping us to proceed further..

Need help to find Sybase's upgrade and migration docs on

ASE 12.5.1 will be certified when it is released later this year.

I have to return to ASE 126.96.36.199 from ASE 12.5.2.
I created a new server and did a dump/load of a user database and
that seems to be fine.
Is this a safe way to downgrade ?
Is it necessary to create a new server (master database) or should it
also be possible to shutdown the 12.5.2 server and start it again with
the 188.8.131.52 binary ?

Trying to find what is the supported upgrade path for the above. Going from
12.0/64bit on AIX 4.3.3 to 12.5 (or 12.5.x) 64bit on AIX 5.2.
If I put AIX 5.2 , the dataserver binary of 12.0 will not work which is used
during the upgrade.
If I put 12.5.x on 4.3.3, the dataserver binary will not work beacuse it is
new binary for 5.2.
Other than backup the databases and load them to the new server, is there a
supported how to upgrade?
