Same machine: ASE 12.5.3 Linux vs ASE 12.5.3 Windows
We had a report from one of our clients recently that our Sybase ASE-based app was running slowly on their new Linux box. As we develop internally against ASE on Windows we thought it would be an interesting test to install both the Windows and Linux flavors of ASE 12.5.3 onto the same server and look at the relative performance. We used a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with 2 x Intel Xeon 3.73GHz dual core processors. On one drive we put SuSE Enterprise Linux Server 10 x86-64, and on the other we put Windows Server 2003 Std R2 64-bit edition. Both were fresh-off-the-CD OS installs. ...

ASE 12.5 on Linux #2
Hallo.. We are looking at replacing out current HP servers with Redhat Linux. We have found so far that there is a bit of a Memory limitation on Linux with Sybase in that you can only allocate about 2GB to Sybase whereas we now have about 2.75GB on HP. We can live with that. The other two important thigs I would say are the use of raw devices and async IO, I found the following : "ASE 12.5.0.2 IR EBF 10581 (to be release in early 2003) will handle async IO natively as well and provide support for raw devices when running with a 2.4.x kernel." Has anyone else migra...

ASE 12.5 installation on Linux 7.2 kernel 2.4
Hello, I installed ASE 12.5 beta version of the web on linux 7.2 kernel 2.4. The parameter 'Number of engine at statup' configured to 1 and the max engines was also configured to 1. When I start the server and do a showserver command from the Unix command prompt, I can see two dataserver connections which I find incorrect and as soon as I execute a T-sql command the number of dataserver ...

Is there an EBF type migration from 12.5.2 to 12.5.4? I do not see anything like this available on the Sybase site. I do see an EBF for a 12.5.4 install and EBF's to move to 12.5.3. Thank you for your help You can install 12.5.4 over an existing 12.5.2 and run the usual scripts (installxxxxx). ASE 12.5 And Linux Red-Hat 7.2
Hi Sybase Team Very soon I must be to install ASE 12.5.0.1 over Linux Red-Hat 7.2 (certified) The Question is : I must install first Sybase 12.5 and after that the EBF 9989 to leave Sybase in version 12.5.0.1 IR ? And the another Question is : I can install another EBF over this version, maybe EBF 10431 i.e. Sybase 12.5.0.1 ESD #2 ? and finally .. The main reason to don't install EBF 10980 over Linux 7.2 is the kernel version probed ? Thanks In Advance ...
