Dump/Load (from ASE 12.5.4 to ASE 15.x) - VS.Hi All,
We are in the process of planning the upgrade of our ASE
12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x. What is the most
recommended way to upgrade ASE dataservers from ASE 12.5.4
to ASE 15.x?
Potential options:
1) Install new instances of ASE 15.x and load database
dumps from our ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to the newly installed
ASE 15.x dataservers.
- OR -
2) Use the ASE upgrade utility (sqlupgrade) to upgrade our
existing ASE 12.5.4 dataservers to ASE 15.x.
What are the Pros vs. Cons for loading a 12.5.4 database
into a 15.x ASE dataserver versus performing an ASE
dataserv...
Migration from ASE 12.5.3 (Win 32bit) to ASE 15.0.2 (Unix 64 bit) questionHi,
I would like to migrate an ASE 12.5.3 on a Microsoft 32-bit
server to an ASE 15.0.2 on Linux (or Solaris) 64-bit server.
What steps must I follow?
Is it a good idea to use a Replication Server 15 as
intermediate task (consultant advice)?
Thanks,
Lorenzo
My current ASE has a total size of 350Gb , 2400 connections,
2.6 Gb of memory...
With ASE 12.5.3 you're suppose to be able to perform cross platform dump-n-loads (XPDL), where 'cross platform'
basically means different OS's and/or different endian hardware. This (obviously?) assumes you'll be using ...
Upgrade Problems (ASE 15.02 ESD#5 to ASE 15.03)Hello there
I recently tried to upgrade to ASE 15.03. Downloaded the
file ase1503_linx86_32.tgz via wget from the product
download center, gunzip'ed it into a directory and tried to
./setup -console it.
During the setup script I got presented with the following

Yes -- as long as you install each in a separate directory tree and make
sure you have separate sets of settings for $SYBASE, $SYBASE_ASE<

ASE 12.5.2 to ASE 15 MigrationI have a master database with size of 10 MB. When I run preupgrd.exe to
check the upgrade validation, exe fails with a note add atleast 7 MB of
additional data space !!
Its known fact master db cannot grow out of master device, the left option
takes both data and log when I use alter database. I re-checked preupgrd.exe
to validate the upgrade process again its giving same message (I altered
master database to the maximum of 40M from 10 MB)

ASE and ASECould it be possible to take scripts from ASA and load them in an ASE
Any information is welcome

ASA supports a fairly large sub-set of Transact-SQL, so if you write your
stored procedures and triggers in ASA using T-SQL, you should be able to
create scripts that will run against both ASE and ASA. If you're planning
to do this though, I would suggest developing your database schema against
ASA, since everything you write in T-SQL in ASA will be supported on ASE,
but the reverse is not true.
Check out the section in the ASA documentation entitled "Tra...
Different behaviour of syslogins in ASE 15 and ASE 12.5?Hi,
I figured out a different behaviour if I create a login with more than 30 charaters as fullname, for example:
sp_addlogin heinz, password, null, null, "these are more than 30 characters I think"
In ASE 12.5 the account is created but the fullname column cropped after 30 characters.
In ASE 15.0.2 the account isn't created at all.
Anyone know if this a feature of 15.0.2? Any parameters I can set to get the 12.5.x behaviour?
THX!
Heinz
I'm gonna assume you issued this command via some GUI ... because when I issue the command via isql I get:

ASE to ASEHi,
Is anyone out there doing ASE to ASE replication using SQL remote? If
you are have created your own version of the SSEXTRACT utility to set up
a replicant database in ASE rather than ASA? Or does anyone know if
SYBASE has created a version SSEXTRACT for use with ASE to ASE
replication?
Thanks in advance
Doug Trainer
Hi Douglas,
I thought the SQL Remote Replication support in ASE11.5 was meant for a
consolidate-database only (by design)! At least that was what Sybase
said when they announced support for SQL Remote technology support in
ASE11.5.
I will be happy to...
Upgrade ASE 12.5.3 to ASE 15.0Can I upgrade my ASE Server 12.5.3 ESD #3 to ASE15.0
without any problems?
According to a ESD #2 notice, if I do this it may regress
the bug compatibility?. What exactly does that mean? What
should I do instead?

It means that most of the bugs fixed in 12.5.3 ESDs
haven't yet been forward-ported to 15.0....
ASE 12.5 on Win XpI am getting an error message while installing ASE 12.5 on Win XP, PIII.

ASE 12.5 32bit to ASE 15.0 64bit upgradeWhat are the steps to upgrade from 12.5 32bit to 15.0 64bit
on AIX 5.3? The 15.0.1 Installation Guide describes the
normal 15.0 upgrade process but then has a terse section
towards the end, "Migrating from 32-bit to 64-bit version",
that describes other steps. Are these steps in addition to
the normal upgrade process (sqlupgrade) or are they in place
of sqlupgrade? Do I really have to drop and re-create all
compiled objects (step 12 under Method #3: Replacing the
binary)?

ASE 15 slower than ASE 12.5.3 in testingThe Sybase press releases (and their sales people) do a good job of talking
up how much better the new query optimizer is in ASE 15. We had a short term
need to squeeze more performance out of our existing servers so we decided
to give it a test.
We installed ASE 12.5.3 and ASE 15.0 (both with the latest EBFs) on the same
dual-core, dual-processor, Intel Xeon server with Windows 2003 Std Edition
and 4GB of RAM.
ASE 12.5.3 and ASE 15.0 were installed in separate directories. Only one was
run at a time (with a clean reboot before switching from one version to
another).

Upgrade to ASE 15..0.3 from ASE 12.5.4I'm currently planning to do an upgrade in place from ASE
12.5.4 to ASE 15.0.3 using sqlupgrade(res) utility.
Does it just run the installmaster and instmsgs.ebf scripts
?
Will I have to manually run the rest of the scripts i.e.
installsecurity, installdbccdb etc.?
Also in ran the preupgrade program against my old server -
the main errors it came up with were:
Stored Procedure '' uses deprecated builtin functions as:
'rowcnt', which should be changed to 'row_count'.
It doesn't show the stored procedures name - has anyone had
this problem ?

Downgrading from ASE 15.0.2 to ASE 12.5.x...Downgrading from ASE 15.0.2 to ASE 12.5.x...
Dear All,
I'm in the process of creating a roll-back / contingency /
downgrade plan for an ASE 15 upgrade project (upgrading from
ASE 12.5.x to ASE 15.0.2).
Just a quick note to confirm my understanding of the below
statement I found in Sybase ASE 15.0.2 installation /
upgrade documentation.
Statement 01:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Downgrading from ASE 15.0.2 release:
This section describes how to downgrade from Adaptive Server
15.0.2
to an earlier Adaptive Server ...
Error starting ASE 12.5 Service"The procedure entry point srv_recvclient could not be located in the
dynamic link library libsrv.dll"
Any ideas? Apparently this was discussed and answered in the Russian
language Sybase forum, but I don't speak russian.
www.sybase.ru/forum/forum.pl?group=sybase.ru.dbms.ase&article=544
Any help greatly appreciated,
Thanks,
Dan
