As a result, your solution to implementing the try statement can't be easily applied to the code I have after Episode 4. By removing the 2 lines referencing $?BLOCK, I get some working code, but I'm not quite sure whether it's also correct. Po...

Episode 4
(voice over) When we last left our heroes, Dan Sugalski-Walker , Master Larry Wall Damian-3P0, and FurB-D2 were on their way to find a fast ship. With the plans for perl 6 in the memory banks of FurB-D2, they were going to the Monterey System to announce the start of Perl 6 and to marshal together a rebel army that could pull it off. (scene: cantina bar. crowded, smokey, dark, loud music. Larry and Dan are seated at a table with the droids behind them. Across from the table are two strangers. One of them starts talking.) Why not the APR way of things? Creating memory pools in which memory can only be allocated (not freed) and after each step is finished you simpy reclaim the entire pool (no fragmentation, no pointer tracking and they even use it to keep track of filedescriptors). Another trick would be to simply allocate sizeof(void*) in each allocation and use that to build...

Something about this was nagging me, so I went back and read it again, and it looks like you are not spilling registers at all, but just reusing dead registers. So my comment doesn't apply. That's the problem with assuming that you know what you are going to read before you read it. :-) Posted by Dave to Parrot at November 14, 2008 2:05 PM ------=_Pa...

Upgrading from 3.2.4 to 4.4.2
Hi folks, sorry to bother you with this (I have just search the 27K messages on the server for "Upgrading from 3.2.4" and there's not a lot there). I have a new customer who wants me to upgrade all of his software and he's on ancient versions of *everything*. In particular he's currently on version 3.2.4 of Bugzilla and he wants to get onto the latest stable release. So my questions are: 1. Is this still possible? 2. If it is, is it going to take a long time as I'm going to have to go from release to release or can I do the upgrade in one gia...
