Can't install 11.2

Hi,

I downloaded 11.2 DVD, burned it and now I am trying to install it (now
I have on my desktop 11.1 installed and works perfectly).
My 11.1 only worked when passed the acpi=off command to the kernel on
boot time, but this doesn't seem to work on 11.2, I tried noapic edd=off
acpi=off apm=off pci=noacpi nothing works, its loading the kernel,
starts to load the modules and reboots when reaches 'usb modules'
('Activating usb drivers...' or something like this >:().
Not even the firmware test works, reboots after kernel is loaded.

I have :
AMD Sempron 3000+ (1.8 MHz)
nVidia FX 5200

Thanks.

I tried:
[F3 Video Mode]->Text Mode
[F5 Kernel]->Safe Settings
[F5 Kernel]->No ACPI
[F5 Kernel]->No Local APIC
nothing works, every time reboots.
The last line on screen says 'Activating usb devices...', could be
something wrong with my hardware, maybe some incompatibilities with 11.2
?
As I mentioned earlier 11.1 works just fine.
Only thing I have to do is to 'acpi=off' for my 11.1.

I can't run anything from the DVD except 'Boot from HDD' and 'Memory
Test', the same problem occurs -> reboots after kernel loads.
I ran md5sum on the DVD image and I've got the same result as posted on
the downloading page.

From the same DVD-ROM someone else installed 11.2, with no kernel
parameters.
I don't know what to do, I tried everything... there are some magic
kernel parameters or my system is too old for 11.2?
This version requires more the 1GB memory(is't all I've got
:sarcastic:)?

Did you do md5 on the burned dvd>

Are you saying someone else used the same DVD and it worked?

Have you tried other versions recently in the dvd drive you are now
using? Or have you tried a live cd?

I did md5sum to openSUSE-11.2-DVD-i586.iso and it was ok
(the checksum was the same) and, yes the same DVD someone else just
installed 11.2 (I saw with my own eyes).

The dvdrom drive works fine, I ran 11.1 DVD (with acpi=off) and there
was no problem  .

I guess I'll have to stay with old 11.1 :'( :'( :disapointed:.

Thanks for your time.

Ok, you got me, I'm a geek >:).

I have installed on my system a dual boot openSuSE 11.1 and Windows XP,
and now you have to tell me how 'zypper dup to 11.2' :sarcastic:.

Or if you are busy, you can post here a link from where I can learn how
to do that.

I followed the steps from the tutorial and finally upgraded to 11.2
(which looks very cool), but doesn't compare to a clean install.
So I downloaded the Live-CD KDE 11.2. The same problem occurs. I can't
install, can't start 11.2 from the Live-CD.
And one more problem, now I can't install the nvidia driver for my
FX5200. It says that the kernel sources are not configured. There are no
effects enabled, can't play a 3D game.
How can I configure my kernel so I can install the driver?

Well, as you can see, you have 3 different kernels installed. Let me
show you mine:

Code:
--------------------
    linux-kernel-headers-2.6.31-3.4.noarch
  kernel-source-2.6.31.5-0.1.1.noarch
  kernel-default-2.6.31.5-0.1.1.i586
  kernel-firmware-20090821-4.1.noarch

--------------------
You only need one of those. If you have more than 3GB of RAM use PAE.
Otherwise use Default

I've deleted the entries (from menu.lst) of the other kernels and kept
only the 'Default' one.
Now I can't boot into linux, I think only the pae worked.
What kind of kernel does 11.2 load when I insert the DVD for install
(desktop?, pae?)?
I am going to install 11.1 and then zypper dup to 11.2.

The kernel that gets installed depends, for me it was Desktop.
PAE would be likely if the system probe sees you have over 3GB RAM on a
32 bit.

FYI: Deleting entries from the menu.lst does not delete the actual
kernel

Let us know what you decide and how you get on.

I just finished the installation of 11.1 (32bit) and it seems that only
the 'pae' kernel is installed, although I have 1GB RAM on my system.
Now I'm going do 'zypper dup' to 11.2 (wish me luck).
