Zenworks 6.5 patch management server on WinXP

Hi,

We are going to deploy Patchlink on our network. Each of our 2 servers
will service between 75 and 125 clients each (2 servers for 2 cities).
It is our understanding that the server will run on Windows XP
Professional SP1. The documentation is kind of contradictory because XP
is not listed in the system requirements for a production server, but it
is listed in one of the screen shots of the install routine.

My question is, if Patchlink will run on WinXP, will it also run on XP
service pack 2 (with the firewall disabled), or only on service pack 1?

Thanks,
Ken

I have not heard that it will not run on XP, but the thing I HAVE heard,
is that when you install patch management, do not have the machine patched.

Let Patch Management patch it as it should after Patch Management is
configured.
You can deploy sp2 to the server(after ZPM install) I think but as you
said, disable the firewall.

Hope that helps.

If doing an EVALUATION, then you can RUN Patch Management on Win XP, but
first install it on a "clean" OS, i.e. without a service pack. After
installation, do the service pack upgrade via Patch Management, or SUS,
manually (this is when it's nice to have an external firewall within a
corporation). Win XP SP2 will install the Microsoft Firewall, so you will
need to disable the firewall, or be savvy enough to unblock things.

I would NEVER recommend running Win XP as a PRODUCTION-type server. That's
not it's function. If you want to run Patch Management in a PRODUCTION
environment, get W2K server or W2K3.

ZENworks Patch Management 6.3
We were using ZPM version 6.2.x for a while and had 400 clients registered with the server. Many of the agents were older versions because of compatibility issues with other software (we can't install MSXML 4SP2). Because of that, we have most clients installed with 6.0.0.58 agents. Two days ago I tried to upgrade the server to version 6.3 but didn't see the upgrade instructions (why isn't that part of the documentation?). I tried just using the download from the ZEN7 suite w/SP1 and the result was I had to start completely from scratch. It removed the old vers...

Zenworks Patch Management/PatchLink 6.4
This weekend I updated out 6.3 system to the 6.4 software and everything seems to be working fine, except I can't find a package/vulnerabilities that shows the new agent (6.4.2.245) to be installed. Currently most of my agents are at 6.3.2.858. My Subscription Service History shows vulnerabilities/licenses/packages status as all complete and successful is True. I can install the new agent manually without problem. Anybody have any ideas what to try next? Pat, It appears that in the past few days you have not received a response to your posting. ZENworks Patch Management Server Name change
hello everyone, if we change our PatchLink server name.. what is the steps to make sure that the new server name is registered with Patch management services including MSDE...Thanks in advance The best way to accomplish this is to edit the host file located in %windir%\system32\drivers\etc\ directory. Create a new entry that will resolve the old server name to 127.0.0.1. This way, the MSDE Database will still be able to located the old server name. ...

Patched 6.5.4 with 6.5.6 but agents are still running 6.5.4
I recently attempted to patch GroupWise 6.5.4 with the most recent patch 6.5.6. After the update finished, I restarted the server, checked all agents and noticed that they all were still running version 6.5.4. However, the first time that I attempted the patch, and I got to the end of the installation, I chose the option to automatically update the startup files, and to start the PO and the Domain (after clicking finish). When the domain and the PO started on the server (after I clicked on finish), they where running 6.5.6, but when I restarted the server and checked the ver...

[PATCH 5.6.0] Threadsafe patches
This patch replaces all the threadsafe patches I've sent except for the subprocess filehandle array one. It threadsafes $AUTOLOAD, lock, and sort. It exposes Perl_lock (with no corresponding lock() compatibility layer exposed, since there's no need) to XS so you can take out a perl-level lock on things, and still exposes the SvLOCK macro which now goes after a per-interpreter lock instead of a per-sv one. There's also a change to use the atomic increment and decrement code on Alphas running OpenVMS intead of the per interpreter refcount mutex. Whether this is a performance w...
