Unable to manage Mandatory Baseline after applying MS11-100

Good morning,

Overnight I deployed MS11-100 to our patch management server which is
running on Windows Server 2003 Standard. This morning I wanted to add a
patch to our mandatory baseline for Win XP workstations. However, when
I go to manage the mandatory baseline and I try to browse the list of
available patches I get the error, 'Internal Server Error. Your Novell
ZENworks Patch Management Server has experienced an internal server
error. An exception occured while performing the requested operation.
To continue, please restart your previous task. If you continue to
receive this message, please contact your administrator for assistance."
I rebooted the server and still does the same thing. Does anyone know
why I would get this? More importantly, any ideas on how to rectify
this? Thanks.

I had the same problem, didn't think the cause was this patch (don't
know for sure) but I had just installed updates for the server and
restarted. The fix that I found was to go and modify the default number
of lines displayed for the various screens. I had it set at 1000 lines,
changed the default to 200 lines. Exited out of the browser waited
about 5 minutes. Logged back in, tried to manage a custom group,
noticed that the default number of lines now showed 200 and everything
works fine, no more Internal Server errors.

Hopefully this will help you too!

No luck, it bombs out as soon as I change the number of lines, whether
for patches assigned or unassigned. :( But thanks for the suggestion.

I don't see anything in today's logs for zpm, but I might not know
exactly what I'm looking for. There is a FrameWork.log with entries
starting the morning I pushed the patch and continuing through this
morning with these errors: Shell Name Explorer.exe in Registry not found
in process list.	01/06/2012

Shaun, that's always one of the first things I do. And I have done it
more than once. Like the cow says in the Dilbert cartoon where the
woman gets banished to a farm for failing to take that basic first
troubleshooting step, "Even a cow knows you should reboot before calling
tech support."

Vlwood,

probably, but that's beyond my pay grade :) I would say recreate the
issue, then send me all the ZPM logs plus the windows event logs, and
I'll talk to Lumension

Vlwood,

oops replied to the wrong thread - worth checking the asp.net version
in use: IIS manager, check properties of the ZENworks web site, the
ASP.net tab - should be 1.1.something, I haven't had time to look at
the logs yet

DaveFoose,

oh wow, the hotfixes are for version 7, which we of course don't have.
Looks like the workaround in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2661403 is
needed - I will open a ticket with Lumension and get the official info.
I think we'll probably have to manage with the workaround, but you
never know...

I just got back after being out of town for a week. I had checked the
version of ASP.net as I'd found a thread where someone had that problem,
but ours was set right. I will look at applying the workaround. Will
watch meanwhile for updates on your ticket. Thanks!

Zenworks Patch management is it useful?
We have been trying to use this product and have come across the following problems and concerns. Perhaps this form could help us answer these questions: 1. We have a group which we would like to receive the MS critical patches when they come out. Thus providing the auto-update option available in Windows update to our group of computers. We have not found a way to do this in patch management. We only have the process of picking the patches individually and adding them to the baseline. Is there a way to automate this? 2. Why is it so hard to get access to version 6.0? We ar...

ZENworks Patch Management 6.3
We were using ZPM version 6.2.x for a while and had 400 clients registered with the server. Many of the agents were older versions because of compatibility issues with other software (we can't install MSXML 4SP2). Because of that, we have most clients installed with 6.0.0.58 agents. Two days ago I tried to upgrade the server to version 6.3 but didn't see the upgrade instructions (why isn't that part of the documentation?).
