Leslie,

no, this is the forum where you ask technical questions about the
Novell product, which just happens to bear an uncanny resemblance to
Patchlink at the moment. ;-)
And since the product's only in trial mode at the moment, bear with
us...

OK then. Yesterday I installed the 90 day eval of the Novell product that
has an uncanny resemblance to PatchLink. There are no "Reports" and no
Packages. I'm attaching the Validate.csv from the diag tool. There are
some errors, but I don't know what they mean.

Here's what I'm thinking may be the problem. I installed Windows 2000
server on this machine from scratch. Then I installed Microsoft's Software
Update Server (SUS) before I had the bright idea that I could just cut to
the chase and go straight to Novells product that has an uncanny resemblance
to PatchLink. I was planning on doing that anyway when I upgraded Zen to
6.5 this summer. Anyway, since there was no uninstall for SUS, I deleted
the SUS directory and stopped the SUS service from running. Then I
installed Novells product that ... Could that be my problem? I could
format the system and start from scratch again if that's what it will help.

Thanks!
Leslie

Leslie,

I@ve been listening to some internal training, and the message is that
you do need to be careful with the install - so yes, I'd recommend a

Leslie,
I tried much the same thing. I originally tried to install the update
server eval on a box that I had used as an SUS test box. Things didn't
work at all. I don't really remember why. Then I built a Windows 2003
Server box, patched it, and installed the update server eval. It
loaded, but I wasn't getting any updates. I contacted Patchlink Support
via email. Within a couple hours, they responded that there was a
problem with the registration code on their end and that they had fixed
it. The email came while I was at lunch, and when I looked at the
update server, it was already receiving updates.

FWIW.

Shaun and Stan,

You both helped. Thank you!! First, I formatted the server and installed a
fresh copy of Win2000 server. Then, I installed the Novell Patch Management
product that looks remarkably like PatchLink. At that point I had solved at
least 95% of the errors. I e-mailed the final 3 errors to the folks at
PatchLink (Support@patchlink.com) and they fixed it on their side. If
anyone else needs to do this, send your serial number in your initial e-mail
to save time.

It's working now!!! Thank you both VERY much!!!

Hello, I recently rebuilt our ZENworks environment in order to go production with everything and due to the recent 10.0.1 update. We built it out on SLES servers (patched) with a MS SQL 2005 server and the computers are XPsp2. My issue is with a user authentication refresh failure. The exact message is: User authentication failed during a refresh. User applications will not be available. This may occur if the user's password is changed or if the user is deleted from the user source. During testing I have attempted to isolate this error by building some computers usi...

Patches, patches, patches... #2
OK, this is advance warning that I'm about to be reposting a bunch of patches of mine which appear to have succumbed to Warnock's Dilemma. The first three should be uncontroversial: there's a documentation fix-up for core.ops, and new tests for strings and stacks. The last one is rather larger, and consists of a greatly expanded set of tests for PerlString's, plus a bunch of bug-fixes. I'd be grateful if Jeff or Dan could take a look at this, as I have the feeling that a lot of the scalar PMCs are going to need similar fixes. Simon ...
