Can zenworks use msde 2000 instead of a full blown ms sql server?I am running three applications that can use both an sql server or a
msde 2000 server. The msde 2000 server is a data engine built on core
SQL Server technology. That runs applications written for MS SQL
server that don't require any maintainence of the database code. It
is kind of like the difference between Powerpoint and a Powerpoint
viewer.

Patches, patches, patches...To forestall potential incidents of Warnock's Dillemma...
I'm about to apply a whole heap 'o patches to Parrot. (With
appropriate [APPLIED] responses, I hope) If, at the end of the day, I
have *not* applied or commented on a patch you've sent, it means I've
Officially Missed It, so give another try.
Sorry 'bout this. Too much mail in the mailbox, and going back in
time is tricky, as it can miss subsequent discussions on patches 'n

SQL Server 2000 SP4 (MSDE) patch deployment hangsHi,
We are testing Patchlink on a freshly installed WinXP SP2 box with the
firewall disabled. It uses the MSDE engine that installs with patchlink.
We are using Patchlink version 6.2.2.181.
While patching this machine, we ran into a problem with the "SQL Server
2000 SP4 (MSDE)" patch. At one point the system hung. We couldn't even
shut down nor log off the PC and patchlink was not responding at all.
After a hard reboot, the patch deployment started again. It is now 19
hours later, and the package deployment is still in progress. There are
only 5 computers that...
Where are the ZENworks Patch Management server patches at?According to this URL:

ZENworks Patch Management Patch 5 is out....I must be way behind because I
still have the base product installed. Where are these patches at? I
cannot seem to find any of them on Novell's website. Applying these
patches could very well fix my issue with my server not being able to
contact novell.patchlinksecure.net as well as the issue we are having
regarding the Discovery Agent using vast amounts of client CPU...

Ricardo,
are you asking how to compress your files? In a custom package you
would have to do this yourself, perhaps use winzip to compress, then
use a script to decompress at the workstation. To make this automatic,
you would need to buy the PDK (Patch Development Kit)

I recently rebuilt our ZENworks environment in order to go production
with everything and due to the recent 10.0.1 update. We built it out on
SLES servers (patched) with a MS SQL 2005 server and the computers are
XPsp2.
My issue is with a user authentication refresh failure. The exact
message is:
User authentication failed during a refresh.
User applications will not be available.
This may occur if the user's password is changed or if the user is
deleted from the user source.
During testing I have attempted to isolate this error by building some

Installing SQL Express after SQL 2005 Full Version
Anyone know any issues with installing SQL Express 2005 when you already have the full SQL 2005 version on a machine? I want to check before attempting and MS are not clear on this subject. I need to install because I have projects with local .mdf file instances and the full SQL 2005 won't allow me to connect to them .. as I understand, only SQL Express will. Thanks
Can you attach these MDF to your server?Beware of bugs in the above code; I have only proved it correct, not tried it. (Donald Knuth)
I'm not sure but that would net help me navigate the .mdf file through ...
Switching from SQL Express to Full-Blown SQL DataBase
Howdy Folks,
I'm near the completion of my first ASP site. I developed it in VWD Express. It has a DataBase for members who will sign up, log in, etc.
I need to know when to make the transistion to SQL from SQL Express. Do I do this before uploading to the server or after the site is uploaded?
All the Controls and DB Connection are working as planned on my machine. I just don't know how to deploy it to the server and switch the DB to work with SQL on the server.
Can you help? I appreciate any input.
Thanks much.
A search of the forums or even a quick Google would have found you this o...
SQL MSDE to SQL 2005 ExpressIs someone able to tell me if the MSDE version of SQL can be upgraded to
2005 express by performing an in-place upgrade? Will ZPDM continue to read
the database correctly?
Thank You
Ron,
which version of ZPM? Upgrading is a recommended path for 6.3.

Patches, patches, patches... #2
OK, this is advance warning that I'm about to be reposting a bunch
of patches of mine which appear to have succumbed to Warnock's Dilemma.
The first three should be uncontroversial: there's a documentation fix-up
for core.ops, and new tests for strings and stacks. The last one is
rather larger, and consists of a greatly expanded set of tests for
PerlString's, plus a bunch of bug-fixes. I'd be grateful if Jeff or Dan
could take a look at this, as I have the feeling that a lot of the
scalar PMCs are going to need similar fixes.

SQL server express code on MSDE/SQL server 2000
hi - I am developing locally using .Net 2.0/Access but just recently started trying out SQL Server Express. I have deployed my application to a host who provides 2.0 but as would be expected only MSDE/SQL server 2000. Now if I'd switch completely to SSE, would my SQL queries (which are pretty simple) work on MSDE or SQL server 2000? The only thing I see as more sophisticated sql queries would be the built-in 2.0 Roles/Membership functions... Do you think they would run smoothly on MSDE/SQL 2000?Finally... since the database is already done locally, is there any way (a stored procedure for ex...
MSDE SQL ???
Hi :)
Can anyone please explain me the folloing scenario
I have a project with MSDE SQL ..now i want to upload it to a Server
what steps are made to use the database on the destination Server ??
Sorry but i never worked with SQL before
Thanks
You can use the data transformation wizard to transfer data from different servers. Its the easiest way if you can make a connection between the two servers simultaneously. Another easy ways is to back up the MSDE databases and restore them onto the SQL server. If the versions are identical this will work. Both of these tasks are don...
