Installing the Patch Management Agent

I need to force an install of the Agent to all of my computers. They
already have an older Agent on them. The problem is that some people have
disabled the DAgent because it was slowing their computer down so much
they could not work. This makes it hard for me to force the new agent down
using PatchLink. I was wondering if there is switches on the .msi that
will make it force a install over the old Agent and add the IP of the
server along with the serial number? That way I could use ZFD 7 to
distribute the new Agent.

If there is a better way please don't hesitate to let me know. If there is
any insight on why the DAgent causes so much CPU and Memory utilization on
the CPU that might be helpful also.

Thanks,
Ken

Do you have Orca (Microsoft's MSI package editor - the install package is
1,840 Kb in size)? If not, let me know and we can work out on how to get
it.
Save the copy of the ZEN Patch Management updateagent.msi file, run Orca,
open up updateagent.msi.
1). On the left-hand side under Tables, go to Property.
2). On the right-hand side (you can click on the Property column header to
sort alphabetically), locate HOST under the Property column and click on
the HOST's Value and enter your information.
3). On the right-hand side still, scroll down and locate SERIAL, and enter
your information.
4). Save the file.
5). Test.

If DAgent is turned off, then you'll have to "sneaker-net", or ask the
persons to kindly turn DAgent back on, since I don't know if you have
ZENworks Desktop Manager and can push it out that way, or Active Directory
with policies and GPOs.

Good luck.

Sounds great and I have done most of that. I do have orca and have used to
alter the MSI. I do have ZFD, so how do you push the install with ZFD and
force the install on top of the old agent. Mine keeps failing, so I
thought it just could not be done. I have tried a few switches but they
are not working through ZFD. I can post error message tomorrow.

You may have to post the ZFD problem in the ZFD forum then.

It works great but it installs 6.4.0.252. Is this version acceptable when
using the Novell Patch Management or do I need to install 6.4.2.252? I
posted this as a comment on the Cool solutions also. I just don't want to
get started if I need to install 6.4.2.252 and not the 6.4.0.252. What is
the differences in the 2 agents? Thanks for all of your help.

Patches, patches, patches... #2
OK, this is advance warning that I'm about to be reposting a bunch of patches of mine which appear to have succumbed to Warnock's Dilemma. The first three should be uncontroversial: there's a documentation fix-up for core.ops, and new tests for strings and stacks. The last one is rather larger, and consists of a greatly expanded set of tests for PerlString's, plus a bunch of bug-fixes. I'd be grateful if Jeff or Dan could take a look at this, as I have the feeling that a lot of the scalar PMCs are going to need similar fixes. Simon ...
