A few configuration questions

Greetings,

I've been testing the ZenWorks Patch Management software for about a week
now. I've been happy with the overall workings of the software, however I
do have a few issues and things that I would like to change. After going
through the docs and google I have not found these answers, or the answer
has been unclear. Perhaps someone here can help me out a bit.

1. Is it possible to select more than one package at a time for deployment?

2. Is it possible to set a rule that when new critical patches come in
they are deployed automatically?

3. Is it possible to set a package to deploy each evening only to those
that have not installed that update yet? (So if i put out 3 new machines I
don't have to select each package to be deployed to those machines. It
would be done automaticly)

4. Is it possible to change the timing of the auto reboot from 2 minutes
to something different? As I'll be pushing updates out overnight to
minimize disruption, I really don't need that two minute countdown.

I think that covers the major things that I'm looking for answers on at
the moment. Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Chuck

I've been testing for about 2 weeks - as such, I'm certainly no expert, but
I'll share what I *think* the answers are.... :)

> 1. Is it possible to select more than one package at a time for deployment?

I don't think so, and this drives me nuts! However, I think the way to get
around this is to use baselines. You can state that a machine, or group of
machines should always have a certain baseline of patches, that you select.
I think this should then roll-out several patches at once.

> 2. Is it possible to set a rule that when new critical patches come in
> they are deployed automatically?
I haven't seen this option anywhere. I don't think this would be something
they'd encourage. In the manuals they always stress to tread carefully
with patch rollouts (use a test group etc)

I think the baseline tool should do that for you.

I haven't seen that option anywhere.

Incidentally, are you getting the same behaviour as I am - if a patch is
allowed to reboot the PC, then when it runs, it installs the patch, force
closes all the user's open applications and *then* displays a window
"Patchlink agent is restarting the PC, please close all applications" &
forces the user to watch a countdown from 2 mins.
First time this happened to my test users I wasn't very popular!

Patches, patches, patches... #2
OK, this is advance warning that I'm about to be reposting a bunch of patches of mine which appear to have succumbed to Warnock's Dilemma. The first three should be uncontroversial: there's a documentation fix-up for core.ops, and new tests for strings and stacks. The last one is rather larger, and consists of a greatly expanded set of tests for PerlString's, plus a bunch of bug-fixes. I'd be grateful if Jeff or Dan could take a look at this, as I have the feeling that a lot of the scalar PMCs are going to need similar fixes. Simon ...
