Problem installing Netware 4.20 on a Pentium IV server

I have a Siemens Pentium 4 server and installing Netware 4.20 was
successful. However, when I shutdown and restarted Netware, I have the
following errors
Abend: General processor Exception
(ErrorCode 00000000)
OSVersion: Novell Netware 4.11
Running Process: Initialization process
Stack 27000007700000000000000000
      00
      02
etc
However, installing on a Petium III server(Siemens) went well without any
problem.
What could the problem be?

Did you try shutting off hyperthreading in the bios? Not being MP enabled
4.2 could be choking there.

In addition to shutting down the Hyperthreading, you probably ought to shut
down advanced power management features in the BIOS as well.

Thank you for your replies. I have disabled advance power management.
However, there is no Hyperthreading on the computer I am using. What other
option do I check?
The problem is still there.

OK -- it might be simply a case of the processor/motherboard being too new
here.

It might be a case of some problem with the memory -- what speed for the
processor and memory here?

Have you installed SP9 on your server?

The computer is a siemens Scenic P300 PC with i865G chipset, 256MB of DDR
400 RAM and Pentium 4 2.8GHz processor.

How did you shutdown and restart your server? Did you completely reboot
your server or did you use the restart server command?

Is it possible to reconfigure via the BIOS to 'tamp down' the memory speed
to 333MHz (ie instead of PC3200, PC2700). I've found (at least in Windows)
that this sometimes helps.

I rebooted the computer and also use the restart server command.

There isn't any option in the bios as regards MP enabling/disabling. I have
gone ahead to confirm the system does not support MP. Is there any other
thing I can do?

See if you can get the thing up with Server -na and thenload and bind the
NIC manually and try to get us a config.txt (at the console <load config>
and it will drop the config.txt into Sys:\system) and don't forget to remove
the serial number before you paste it into the next message.

No special drivers loaded at DOS level. Just prepared the system afresh
before installing Netware 4.2.

I wish to thank you all for your wonderful contributions. We have however
resolved the problem. This we did by going to Siemens web site to download
the latest firmware for the computer and this completely resolved the
problem.
Once again thank you all

Installing Netware 4.11 on a Pentium 4 server
Has anyone had recent expererience installing Netware 4.11 on any of the current Pentium 4 class of servers? Our 7+ year old P150, 2 GB server is getting old enough that we are concerned about the usual failure potentials. We would like to upgrade to a fairly modest Dell P4 2.26 GHz server, but are concerned about compatability issues between old software and new hardware. We are operating our business using a distribution software that uses Btrieve databases as it's underlayment, so migrating to the latest Netware version is currently not desirable. Replacing a Netware 4 server with a NetWare 6 server...
I have been hired to set up a netware 6 server and transfer some data from an old nw4-server. Its a quite simple environment, just file-sharing, printing and some simple policies... I have some questions and thoughts about it... I have most been working with Netware 4 and a bit with netware 5. What is the biggest differences with Netware 6? Netware 4.2 Can't load Install, change server parameters, server freezes.
Last week I had a mysterious problem, the server would hang loading Install, config or even trying to modify the server parameters. Users would loose immediately the connection to the server. I was able to run the dsrepair -a, and run check volume objects and trustees and that took care of the problem with users loosing connections to the server. I still have a problem with server hanging up. About a year ago I had problem only with loading install, when we added more memory and drive space. Removing IPX support Netware 6,Netware 4.11
Hi all, Does anyone know a way of forcing Netware 4.11 to use IP instead of IPX as its preferred protocol? After removing IPX support from our netware 6 boxes, our netware 4.11 box can no longer communicate. I would have thought that it would attempt to use IP instead of IPX... I haven't had a lot of experience with netware 4.11 boxes. Thanks in advance, Ben. NW 4.11 can only use IPX for NCP communications. The only way to go what looks like IP only is to use Netware/IP or CMD, but both these are just ways of encapsulating IPX traffic in IP packets and they are no...

Windows XP Netware Client and Netware 4.11 server
I am having some odd problems with this combination. Most of our client machines are W98 and the login script seems to work just fine. The new Windows XP Pro computer I am trying to add to the network doesn't seem to behave the same as my W2K Pro computers using the same Novell Client. Login times and NetWare rescource access times were very long so I removed the IP support from the Novell Client, specified the 802.3 frame used by the 4.11 server and specified its actual network number in the NWLink protocol settings. That helped one login user: everything worked nicely, l...
