Hi, Im running a Netware 6 server for the novonyx webserver, And its almost only used for www. 1st service patch installed. Total memory is 767 MB, UW SCSI disk with Adaptec card, And its a Celeron 2ghz, 10/100 network card on a 10mbit connection. Because i have huge traffic (200-600+kb/s almost every time) i have looked around a bit regarding performance. But now i dont know the standard values of. Maximun Simultaneous requests Listen Queue Size HTTP Persistent timeout And the cache size in obj.conf file. Does anyone know what this values should be as default and in heavy load ? The server has some big files 150mb+ downloadable on it. And i get mail about broken downloads and timeouts I also have some other problems with it. If i let the server creates index of a folder its eating my memory, So i need to restart it every 4-6 days or so. It abends if i just want to restart the webserver, Wasent there before but it have started with it. And another thing with the index, Sometimes it creates a page that are not correct. Pasting sample. <A HREF="" NAME=""><IMG SRC="/mc-icons/menu.gif" ALT="[DIR]" BORDER=0> </a> 04-May-03 23:39 0K <A HREF="" NAME=""><IMG SRC="/mc-icons/menu.gif" ALT="[DIR]" BORDER=0> ! SP3 is now installed. But it still eats memory if i Novonyx is making the index every time that page is accessed. It dosent depends on the size of the files. It seems to be that when u have lots of files in a folder and u let the page be created "indexed" it cant release the memory used. I think u could see this problem if u put many documents (the more the better 100-1000) in a folder and try to update it some times. And checking free memory before and after.

Ahh... missed from... every thing gone. I have tested on another server, and it shows the same problem. Cant a Novell programmer look at the module for creating index files ? SP3 installed Easy to simulate. 1. Make a folder in the web without index.html 2. Add about 200-500 files (size dont make any different) 3. Check memory on server 4. Update the page several times (10 - 40) 5. Check memory again Then make me a bug fix.

: > Easy to simulate. > > 1. Make a folder in the web without index.html > 2. Add about 200-500 files (size dont make any different) > OK, I used SYS:\SYSTEM which according to Windows Exploder has 935 files in it > 3. Check memory on server > starting memory was 3.8MB > 4. Update the page several times (10 - 40) > 5. Check memory again > ending memory was 4.7MB refreshing the page from 2 different workstations. Note that I did not change any files in the directory, I just kept hitting reload on the browser. > are these servers upgrades from NW5, or NW6 original installs? They are clean installs of NW6, with both with SP3. But the problem was there before the servicepacks to. So u did see the problem to, then im not alone. In a more used website this makes the problem bigger than the simulation. And as im learned a novell server just runs and runs and runs. And i have even read about a missing server at a school, but they found it atlast built in behind some wall. :) It seems like the index module cant release the memory when its done, If i make a index.html it works greate. But if the server have taken to much memory it sometimes make an abend when restarting webserver, So its better to reboot it then. ps. I hope they find a solution to this because i love the index engine.

Ok. I will try that one. magnus.conf RqThrottle 48 ListenQ 4096 #ExpectInternationalUrl ON #AsyncDNS on #MaximumFilesReturnedInIndex 4000 Obj.conf Init fn="cache-init" MaxTotalCachedFileSize=2400 It maked an abend when i was going to restart it, but we will se if that problems dissapear with those settings. Yes in my opinion its heavy used, but thats my guess. About 1500 hits each day (not so much) And about 200-300 kb/s Lan Troughput in a medium value, sometimes 40kb/s and sometimes up to 700+ kb/s (checked in "Health Statistic Trend Graphs" ) Everything used for the webserver. Now there are 134 files in 36 folders of a total of 179 MB unindexed. And free memory after i did restart it is "Available Memory GOOD 527MB 764MB 767MB " Time and date "Novell NetWare 6 Server Version 5.60.3, March 27, 2003 - Server Up Time: 0:00:07:09" Hit counter is now " 231428 " on my page Then we will se in a day what the difference is. But i guess this is a bug with the index engine, and it have not been found because not many ppl using it with this kind of traffic. Do you have contact with the developers/bug reports at Novell ? Or you mayby are one of those. (You mayby should ask if anyone have seen this problem before). Best Regards Magnus
