upgrade edir 8.7.3 to 8.8.2 or 8.8.3?
Our tree: Netware 6.5SP7 and OES2/Linux, edir 22.214.171.124b ftf1 and edir
I started to install new servers with edir 8.8 some month ago, some of the
edir 8.7.3 servers will be switched of before long. Now I want to upgrade
the remaining 8.7.3 servers to 8.8. It seemed clear to me that I wouldn't
install 8.8.2 if 8.8.3 is out. But after reading the postings here, I am

What is the best way to do this? I tried the .tgz ./nds-install method
and had errors. (IDM 3.5.1 is also installed on this server).

I have a mixed Netware 6.5/6.0 tree all Netware 6 servers are running SP5

one of the Netware 6 boxes and received an error message during the install

restarting the server and running the install again same error message.

...Upgrade 8.7.3 to 8.8.2
It was with sheer disbelief that I encountered the same fault in the
V8.8.2 upgrade that was in the 8.7 upgrade 5 years ago. I am still
wondering what I have wrong with my servers that this never works.
I removed all extra applications, added STARTX to the autoexec
(uncommented) re-booted, did the installation and it fell over with

We have eDirectory 8.6.2 SP1 and we want to upgrade to eDir 8.7.3. Can we
install 8.7.3 directory on top of eDirectory 8.6.2 SP1 or do we absolutely
have to upgrade to latest service pack (8.6.2 SP6), before moving to 8.7.3?
As long as the server is running either NW 5.1 SP6 or NW 6 SP3 or later
you should be fine.

I'm about to upgrade my two NW6SP4 servers from eDir 8.6.2 to eDir 8.7.3.

there any difference in which order those actions are done?

I had a problem upgrading my Master Cert. and Replica server to eDir 873.
My server kept crashing at the point where the eDir 873 install was trying
to updated the Products.DAT file and before the GUI install started. I
checked the eDIR version of DS and DSREPAIR and they are correct.
I even ran DSRepair and everything reported OK. I was able to upgrade
three other servers with no problems. However, when I ran DSRepair - Rep.
Sync the next day, two servers showed -776 and -663 errors. I ran PKIDiag
on those servers and new certificates were created. Looked in all my OUs

In reading the Text file on the CD, it states that we might want to
manually extend the schema. The instructions aren't quite clear but this
is what I think it says:
1. Copy the DSI.NLM and DSISCH.NLM files from the "NW\SYS\SYSTEM"
directory to the server. (I assume this means to the SYS\SYSTEM directory
on the server.)
2. Copy the desired schema files from the CD to a temp directory on the

Two questions: All six servers are Netware 6.5 SP6 with eDir 220.127.116.11. I
am preparing a migration (physical, identity) to OES 2 SP1 Linux. One of
the servers in my tree does not have a SYS:/SYSTEM/embox folder or
embox.nlm. It would appear that this was somehow not installed with the
last migration or update.
How do I install it, or what do I reinstall to resolve this? I want to
merge a partition into the root.
Second: I will need to install SP7 or SP8, and then install eDirectory

Hello we are following TID 7002926 Upgrading eDir 184.108.40.206 to 8.8.4 on
NW 6.5 regarding this procedure the first issue I am having is that I
cannot seem to find eDirectory 8.8.3 on the Novell Download sight. I
have seen that 8.8.5 is the version currently available, should we just
be planning on upgrading to that, and ignoring the information we have
in the TID? The final line in the TID "To upgrade eDirectory 8.7.3.x to
eDirectory 8.8.4 on NW 6.5, install eDirectory 8.8.3 first then apply NW
6.5 SP8" This applies to our next issue.
Another issue that we are facing is tha...Upgrading OES1, edir 8.7.3 to 8.8
Investigating the upgrade to 8.8 from 8.7.3.
Right off, I am struck dumb by what I find in TID 10099872:
"OES Linux Requires Newer NCP Engine
To upgrade to eDirectory 8.8 on OES Linux SP2, you must use the
"oes-edir88" channel which includes the needed NCP engine.
"Warning: Do not install eDirectory 8.8 without first installing the
newer NCP engine for eDirectory 8.8 or your server might be rendered
inoperable. Also, do not install this updated NCP engine on a server
running eDirectory 8.7.3.""
The way it reads (to me) I cannot upgrade. What ...
