Hi Everyone, First time posting so please be gentle. My question is this: Is there an upper limit for the number of NTP clients a single reference server can have? In the documentation I've read, they say to use 30 secondary *Timesync* servers or less for a single reference server, but it doesn't say anything about the number of NTP requests that one server can handle. Scenario: I have a tree consisting of 7 Netware 6.5 SP5 servers, 2 Netware 5.1 servers, and 1 Netware 6.5 SP8 server. The time server (Single reference) houses a R/W replica and is an SLPDA. While the number of Netware servers hitting it for time is well under 30, there are over 90 network switches requesting time from it as well. All devices are using NTP (port 123 in the configured sources list in Netware) and I keep getting the message "Time Synchronization has been lost after 14 successful polling loops" every 23 minutes. Been researching for weeks and it's driving me up a wall. If anybody could shed some light on the situation, I'd really appreciate it. Many Thanks in advance for your sage-like wisdom, Chris -- chaseds ------------------------------------------------------------------------

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 NTP is quite lightweight. Unless you had thousands of boxes pointed to one machine I would not worry about it. If utilization of the timesync.nlm starts going crazy perhaps consider it, but otherwise the biggest worry I would have with this setup is handling if/when the Reference server goes down. You may want to configure a couple of Primaries for your Secondaries for that type of scenario. Good luck. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.15 (GNU/Linux) Comment: Using GnuPG with Mozilla - http://enigmail.mozdev.org/ iQIcBAEBAgAGBQJO3Ww1AAoJEF+XTK08PnB5FusP/0TZ/b/DOsGJxkc/z/UvlcG9 uj6O337NsScjd3WPI4E+vV4jGYSYKsSNKwuNkRzly6SnesC7KrC5jOgoNysDg5ka 09UArMHc71dXz2866SOSs2yqqFmI/WbfjjScuk0aac6ZgR37imZyLc3MG5jCOUj9 tc0kmiRWp4bk15Xikrm3zaa7aRMqnRVua22tPxJP3Y7BPEC/9XYljdzp/HJvu/kL E90uprnUFi/mAp3nabJlqa/RrksdDLWZuglPkgbMIFT3umHaofzn/lsM0CG5CjLa Iz8N26wIhgs/dZ+sIArkVDhWAvADfmcrxN9GujuStsl0+apKesTPCSIZ7FDt+Tjy fOVK2q+0a0nljPkbFHiY4E/7EjLCdtGQHxe6FBLNYyGXqiNJvYzUj2O0kj0W2fxU JnwY240g5KT2a6FvEtCuoBdptv18hLkP8Ikitvsouj3fGtI137Ze8mrkEow9txwS Y/xYXHgcaxrHpxW9iqBQUfbvhXWM0SRLMvtRf7N8JbQoS4X58q8t13tJzowcaZNK qyov9eA6y87KCNWf8+tiF4JmdS1DhoIv6+2gz0G2uPmQtuFyKhaFfn8vbwTXM4mH ReRs1RPoYUIgG+mLqRoqdKa7Tvl+4Ktvd17XhluO/zdqamBYyBeIhJnLQNGT3F31 390AhM6wXqCQTjCf6pib =YaTj -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
