New 6.5 Server into 5.1 environment edir 8.73

Hi all,

Hope someone can give me an answer. I am looking to install my first 6.5
server into a tree that has 5.1 servers all on Edir 8.73. My questions
are;

1) Do I need to bother with Deployment Manager if so then...
2) Backup Data ? I have no server yet - so I assume I skip this step
3) Do I have to run the CA stuff and Universal password and CIFS prep if
this is a new server into an existing tree not an upgrade?

Sorry for the confusion - I appreciate any assistance...

Given your existing servers are already on eDirectory 8.7.3, your install
should be a piece of cake from the NDS and CA point of view.
What you can do before the install is run the deployment wizard and update
your schema to support the potentially new NW 6.5 stuff.
Apart from that, I can't see much what to do.
Universal password is something you would only have to bother about after
you installed NW 6.5.

Installing a single 6.5 server into a multiple server 5.1 eDir 8.7.3 tree.
Hello, I want to install a new server to run GroupWise 6.5 webmail, and to take advantage of the integrated Apache/Tomcat features I'd like to install it with Netware 6.5. This server is just going to run webservices and GroupWise, little else. Every other server, including the master replica & cert server are on NetWare 5.1 sp6 edir 8.7.3. Other than upgrading all the servers to edir 8.7.3 & nici 2.4 (which we've already done), is there anything else that needs to be done? I've seen references to upgrading the master replica to 6.5, but is this necessary in ...

Installing a NetWare 6.5 server into an all 5.1 tree
We are considering installing a NetWare 6.5 server into one of our remote sites. All of our other servers are currently 5.1. I know it is not an issue to put the 6.5 server into our environment, but NetWare Customer Service told me that it is suggested that the master replica be put onto the 6.5 server. We don't want to do that since this is a remote site, and we really don't want to upgrade our existing master replica server at this time. Would we be able to "get away with" installing just a partition replica onto the 6.5 server and maintain the Master Repl...

Concurrent perl 5.6.0, 5.6.1, 5.8.0, and 5.8.0threaded
Hi, So, I'd like to have multiple versions of perl installed on my system, for testing stuff, poking around, etc. It's not really that difficult, actually - you just arrange that they have different @INC directories (or that they overlap in the ways you want them to), and you make /usr/bin/perl point as a symlink to whichever version you want to use regularly (probably 5.6.1). Here's what I think I'd have, creating a few fink packages to manage things for me: * /usr/bin/perl5.6.0 - Apple's perl, unmodified, @INC is: /System/Library/Perl/darwin ...
