Edir upgrade quick question I hope

I have about 18 Netware 6.5 SP8 servers in my tree running Edir 8.7
along with a few new OES Linux running Edir 8.8.. I would like to
upgrade the Netware servers to 8.8 if possible. Can I simply download
the Edir 8.8 patch and install it via NWCONFIG on the Netware servers or
is there more involved issues to be aware of ??..These netware 6.5
servers have been updated all along with service packs and therefore do
not have the 8.8 version on them. Can someone point me to the appropiate
download file I would need as well as any installation instructions or
"gotcha's" that may be floating around ??
Thanks so much in advance
Doug

Get it on Google Play
Get it on Apple App Store

You will want the full installer here -
'NOVELL: Downloads - Novell eDirectory 8.8.5 ISO Install on NetWare
Platform-Specific'

Then the patch
'NOVELL: Downloads - eDirectory 8.8 SP5 Patch6 for NetWare'

Usually I find it easier to upgrade if you have physical console access
(be it ipkvm/ilo/drac/vm) but the upgrade can be done remotely. Make
sure the tree is healthy/timesync/communication/etc/etc.

There is always the answer "migrate to oes2/oes11" :)

No, just upgrade to 8.8, then the latest patch for 8.8. There's a DIB
upgrade involved, so it'll take some time to get the 8.7 to 8.8 upgrades
done. Plan accordingly.

In my experiance, the DIB upgrade part is pretty fast. The main time of
the installation the the GUI part afterwards to install tools and udate
eDirectory objects after the install (like updating the LDAP objects and
NMAS attributes).

Netware 5.1 to Netware 6.5 upgrade EDIR question....
We have a tree of 20 servers all at NW 5.1, sp4 with edir 8.6.2 (sp3). We are getting ready to begin upgrades of all the servers to NW 6.5 sp1.1. Each server will have nw51sp6 applied just prior to the upgrade. The process will take 10 - 12 weeks to upgrade all of the servers. My question: Will we experience problems between servers still at NW 5.1 with edir 8.6.2 (sp3) and the new servers at NW 6.5 with edir 8.7.3? Will they cooexist in a fairly stable manner until all upgrades are complete? We prefer not to travel to all locations just to update edir.... THANKS! Rick. R ...

NetWare 5.1 to NetWare 6.5 Upgrade Question
I have a customer with a NetWare 5.1 Network. They have a main location with with their primary NetWare 5.1 server, then they have multiple locations which also have their own individual NetWare 5.1 servers which are all part of the same tree. They are looking to upgrade to NetWare 6.5 and also install GroupWise 6.5. They are also going to have one new additional server when they upgrade. I am wondering which would be better, to start a new tree on the new server machine and migrate/recreate everything in the tree and somehow unjoin the old servers and rejoin them to the ne...

Questions on upgrading from Netware 5.1 to Netware 6.5
We are currently running Netware 5.1sp5 ds 8 version 8.82 I want to install a clean netware 6.5 server and make it the Master replica, following with an inplace upgrade of six read\write netware 5.1 servers to 6.5. What should I be concerned about? Does this sound like the appropriate path to take? You can install the NW6.5 server as a Pre-Migration server, there will be no other application installed on the server, use MW7.1. In order to do this make sure all you other servers have eDir8.7.3 install and update the SP to the latest available for NW5.1. Get a copy of the tru...

NetWare 5.1 SP5 to NetWare 6.5 upgrade questions
Hello, We have plans to upgrade from NetWare 5.1 (Edir 8.6.2 SP3) to NetWare 6.5 later this year. We have to consider the NFS 3.0 replacement to Native File Access on one server, and then comes my next question. Should we/must we upgrade our Edirectory from 8.6.2 to 8.7.x prior to upgrade? And what is the current recommended Edirectory 8.7.x SP? version we should upgrade to? Thanks, Scott Hi Scott, The first task is to install NW51SP7 and verify to have the same level of NICI (56/128 bits) and eDir on all servers. Stany. > Hello, > We have plans to upgr...

Quick upgrade question
Upgrading from 6.03 to 6.52 Can one upgrade directly from the downloaded SP2 single file (gw65sp2e.exe 331,574 KB) or must we first install the 6.5 CD and then patch the SDD to 6.52 before upgrade? Are there any files missing from the download in other words. Yep, there are a few, check through TID 10065939, 6 and 6.5 work the same way Cheers Dave -- Dave Parkes [NSCS] Occasionally resident at http://support-forums.novell.com/ ...

upgrade of eDir questions.
Hello All, I have a small eDir 8.7 / Netmail server collocated at an ISP that I am using for several small non profits. This server is running Redhat 7.0 and I would like to upgrade to SELS 9. From what I have be able to tell I can not do an inplace upgrade from Redhat to SuSe 9. Since I only have one box I will not be able to take advantage of replicas for eDir. So.. my question is what is the best way to install the latest eDir? I am planning on making a complete backup of the system onto a external USB drive, then doing a fresh install of SuSe 9. Should I then restore the pri...

Hopefully a quick question...
Hello Everyone,  I'm not sure where exactly to post this, but I'm having an issue with my ajax page.To put it simply, I have a drop down list that contains store locations, and 5 other drop down lists that are bound (in code) to the inventory items that selected store has in stock.  There is a label underneath each drop down list that says: "In Stock: " then the number in stock. Here's my issue:  When the page initially loads, it populates the store data fine.  When you select one it populates the drop down lists containing the items perfectly.  ...

Quick Upgrade Question
If you wanted to upgrade agents (MTA and POA) from 7.01 to 7.02 (on NetWare) - can you run the install from the agent directory and skip the part about the database path and domain/po name if you just want new nlm's and keep your old startup files? Is all that prompting for path and name of domain/po just to create new files? Same for GWIA ? Netware Upgrade Questions
I'm working on a project to upgrade a Netware 3.2 server with Win 98 workstations to Netware 5.1 and XP stations. I will probably do a clean install of Netware 5 and apply patches as needed to get the server stable. I've seen postings in the past that mentioned very slow access speed between on the stations when connecting from a Windows based station using a NetWare client. Can anyone provide me with advise on this situation along with any others so I can minimize the problems I may see in the future? Thanks, Tony G. Tony, just a thought here -- instead ...

I noticed a lot of "Your Name Here" tags in the web site code. Is it supposed to display the name of the person logged in?   Example: <%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/Default.master" Title="Your Name Here | Resume"    CodeFile="Resume.aspx.vb" Inherits="Resume_aspx" %> Its the page name title that shows along the top of the web browser. So you set it to your website name or page title you want or both. Hope it helpsRegardsJeremyIf this has helped Please: Don't forget to click "Mark a...

Quick install question
After updating my existing GW 6.5 system to SP4, I intend to re-install WebAccess, this time putting the WA Application on our RH 9 web server, so that we can get to our mail via our web site. The install docs say that when you do that, Apache 2 web server, Java SDK, Tomcat 4 and Jakarta get installed automatically. We're a little concerned about that, since we already have Apache 2 running on that web server and would not like WA to diddle with the configuration, except to put in its pages, etc. Am I being paranoid? edir upgrade question
I currently have a couple of servers that are running edir 8.7.3.6 on NW6.0 sp5. I have noticed that there is an 8.7.3.8 patch available. However, it says that the patch has only been tested with NW6.5 sp4 and sp5. Will this patch run on NW6.0 sp5 or do I need to upgrade to NW6.5 to use this patch? Thanks in advance for any replies.
