Netware 5.1 license in use "last updated" shows future date!
I'm working with a netware 5.1 server with 20 connection licenses installed (many years in service), that had a power-related failure 2 days ago. Recovered power, but found 1 of the 2 physical drives in the RAID array had failed. Removed failed drive and used Dell's onboard utility to clear/reset the array to only 1 drive. The server rebooted apparently Ok. I ran DSREPAIR and found multiple "Illegal timestamps were found" errors; with dates of 12/13/2011 - 5 months into the future. DSREPAIR did not fix these (ran multiple times, with same reports returned), and it recommended "Repair timestamps and declare new epoch". Users began logging back in with no apparent problems, until the 6th user attempted to connect, and was denied drive mapping due to license count being exceeded. I checked license properties in NWADMIN32 and found all 20 showing in use, with the usage details for each and every user displaying "Last updated" showing the same future date reported by DSREPAIR (12/13/2011). Some of these users had not been on the server since before the power crash, and their stations have been off and disconnected from the local network, but the licenses showed they were still "in use" by those users. I use NWADMIN32 to manually "remove" several users "in use" status from the licenses, and those licenses then showed up again as available. I was hoping that if a user then re-connected, the "Last updated" date would reset to the current date. Unfortunately, when the 1st removed user was reconnected to the server, they again showed up as using a license (under a different SN this time), but the "Last updated" date returned with the same future date again. The server system time (via console) is showing the current date, so what can I do to track down the problem that causes the license "in use" status to retain this future date? Is there another "date" object the license management uses other than the current server system date? Is there further damage-cleanup I need to do on the server? This is a mission-critical system, and currently only 5 users are able to access the turn-key app hosted on this server, so any and all help would be appreciated! Hi, Fortunately Novell is usually willing to take your money and open a SR on it if it comes to that, even on older versions of NetWare. So if this truely IS an emergency situation, you can always call and I am sure they will be able to help. But first a couple things to check: 1. Does the TIME command output say "Time IS synchronized to the Network?" Because that means time is in sync and the time shown is the "real" time seen by the sever. If it says anything about "synthetic time" or time NOT being synchronized, you have a problem. 2. Declaring a new epoch is, by far, one of the biggest ways you can hose up NDS. Resist the temptation to do this. It basically forces timestamps on all objects to be re-written, and in a large directory, will take forever, and I have seen it cause issues of the other replica holders are not properly patched and when DS is otherwise not healthy. I would view this as a last resort and only if its prooven to be the proper solution. It MAY fix the problem you have. Try everything else first. 3. Can you give us an example of the objects which are dated in the future, you can cut / paste in a section of the DSREPAIR log if you want. 4. If you have the original license disk, from a workstation you can copy the contents to a sub folder on SYS:, then you can delete and reinstall the license. ( Though in your case it sounds like just installing it would do the trick. ) LOAD NWCONFIG --> License Options --> Install License --> Hit F3 --> SYS:\Whatever_Folder_You_Made and it will reinstall the license. If it shows only a 5 user license, and you have a 20 user license, this will most likely fix things. This should be a low risk, if the license is already there, it will tell you, if not it will install it. If you don't have the license... not much we can do. 5. The only way you would have timestamps in the future is if the clock on the server were set ahead. So did the CMOS die and you had to enter a date manually? ( Or someone you work with? ) Its important to know HOW the date got set wrong so as to avoid this in the future. BE10.1 New install wont show: "NetWare Services"
Hello all, since our Backup Server crashed and wasn't able to make any more backup, I'm investigating a re-install of the server. There is however one thing I cant find out. When looking at our selection list on the old backup server I found a group called "NetWare Services" where all the NetWare servers we have are shown. If I however reinstall the server there is no list called "NetWare services". Netware 5.1 install goes to "Temporary:" prompt at command line
During the install of NW51, the install looks to be running as normal. Then, the Novell screen splash appears and exits to the command line to TEMPORARY: Since the installation does not complete, there is no NDS tree and deleting "INSTAUTO.NCF in NWSERVER does nothing to solve this problem. I'm building a test network that is currently a mess. This network will be used to test the migration of my 10 netware 5.1 Sp 6 servers to NW 6.5. I'm putting two netware 5.1 servers and one MS 2003 server into the test network. Testserver 1 is a 5.1 SP6 server with a master replica. When installing Testserver 2 using the NW51SP6 overlay, the installation failed with a css.nlm "waiting for xmgr" error. Using SQLAnywhere 5.5.04, I've gotten into the habit of using "||" in ISQL to indicate a string concatenation. I needed to paste my SQL statement into the PowerBuilder script painter for some embedded SQL, and PB didn't like the "||" very much at all. I changed it to "+" and it seems to be ok.
