GroupWise - Adding user as 'BC', not 'To'

IDM 3.5.1 - GroupWise Driver

I am trying to write a simple rule to add a user to a distribution list
_as_a_'BC'_participation_member....not_'To'_. It is sited in the
documentation on how to do it, but I can't get it to fully work. It
does add the user as a member of the distribution list, but it adds
them as a 'To', not a 'Bc'. No error message received, but Trace level
3 post will follow. Rule is below....Can anyone help?

Thanks, Jordan

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><policy
xmlns:gw="http://www.novell.com/dirxml/gdriver">
	<rule>
		<conditions>
			<and>
				<if-class-name op="equal">User</if-class-name>
			</and>
		</conditions>
		<actions>
			<do-set-dest-attr-value class-name="User" gw:participation="bc"
name="Distribution List DN">
				<arg-value type="dn">
					<token-text
xml:space="preserve">BWD\GroupWise\Test-Dist-list</token-text>
				</arg-value>
			</do-set-dest-attr-value>
		</actions>
	</rule>
</policy>

This code doesn't look right. For the do-set-dest-attr-value, I don't
think you can just put extra parameters in there like that. The trace
doesn't show any "gw:participation" in it, either.

Looking at the docs, they say you need to specify:

<add-attr attr-name="Distribution List DN
xmlns:gw="http://www.novell.com/dirxml/gwdriver" gw:participation="bc">
<value type="string">\IDMTREE\Novell\Users\cDL1</value> <value
type="string">\IDMTREE\Novell\Users\cG1</value> </add -attr>

It looks like you can do this with something like:

 <rule>
  <conditions>
   <and>
    <if-class-name op="equal">User</if-class-name>
   </and>
  </conditions>
  <actions>
   <do-set-dest-attr-value class-name="User" name="Distribution List
DN">
    <arg-value type="dn">
     <token-text
xml:space="preserve">BWD\GroupWise\Test-Dist-list</token-text>
    </arg-value>
   </do-set-dest-attr-value>
   <do-set-xml-attr expression='*[@attr-name = "Distribution List DN"]'
name="gw:participation">
    <arg-string>
     <token-text xml:space="preserve">bc</token-text>
    </arg-string>
   </do-set-xml-attr>
  </actions>
 </rule>

You might have to play around with this to get exactly what you want,
but that should get you close.

Thanks so much David.....but I still can not get it to work. Still no
error message, just no 'BC' participation. I tried manipulating your
code several ways, but with no success. (I am still learning how to
write xml statements). Is the code in the documentation supposed to be
put in an x-path expression, the policy, a stylesheet??? I am confused
about how to insert the supplied code??

Thanks,
Jordan

Post a trace of the event, with the rule as I wrote it. I don't have a
system I can test it against here, but it looked ok in Designer's
simulation.

The supplied code in the documentation is what the rule must output in
to the document. They don't specify how you're going to get it to do
that. Should be possible in policy builder, but I need to see the input
document and what mine produced as output to see what might be wrong.

What version of IDM and the GW driver are you using, by the way?

Thanks so much David for looking at this......excuse my 'idiot-ness'!!!

I attached a trace using your rule......it does add the distribution
list but as To instead of Bc.

Thanks,
Jordan

No problem. This one's a bit complicated.

>I attached a trace using your rule......it does add the distribution
>list but as To instead of Bc.

Ok, the trace shows two differences. The sample in the docs has
arguments of type "string", where I was specifying argument type "dn".
It's also specifying two values for the add-attr. I'm sure somebody
could do that in xpath statements, but I found it easier to do it with
xslt, so try this as a stylesheet:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?><xsl:stylesheet
exclude-result-prefixes="query cmd dncv" version="1.0"
xmlns:cmd="http://www.novell.com/nxsl/java/com.novell.nds.dirxml.driver.XdsCommandProcessor"
xmlns:dncv="http://www.novell.com/nxsl/java/com.novell.nds.dirxml.driver.DNConverter"
xmlns:query="http://www.novell.com/nxsl/java/com.novell.nds.dirxml.driver.XdsQueryProcessor"
xmlns:xsl="http://www.w3.org/1999/XSL/Transform"><!-- parameters passed
in from the DirXML engine -->
<xsl:param name="srcQueryProcessor"/>
<xsl:param name="destQueryProcessor"/>
<xsl:param name="srcCommandProcessor"/>
<xsl:param name="destCommandProcessor"/>
<xsl:param name="dnConverter"/>
<xsl:param name="fromNds"/>
<!-- identity transformation template -->
<!-- in the absence of any other templates this will cause -->
<!-- the stylesheet to copy the input through unchanged to the output
-->
<xsl:template match="node()|@*">
   <xsl:copy>
      <xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
   </xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
<!-- add your custom templates here -->
<xsl:template match="add[@class-name='User']">
	<xsl:message>Adding BC Distribution List</xsl:message>
 		<xsl:variable name="name">
			<xsl:value-of select="@src-dn"/>
		</xsl:variable>
		<xsl:copy>
			<xsl:apply-templates select="@*|node()"/>
			<add-attr attr-name="Distribution List DN"
xmlns:gw="http://www.novell.com/dirxml/gdriver" gw:participation="bc">
				<value
type="string">\BWD\GroupWise\Test-Dist-list</value>
				<value type="string">
					<xsl:value-of select="$name"/>
				</value>
			</add-attr>
		</xsl:copy>
</xsl:template>
</xsl:stylesheet>

It seems to produce the required output in Designer's simulation, so I
think it'll work for you.

I am trying to get values from the database into a form for updating using a Datareader, SQL is set to allow nulls for certain fields as they are not required but the only way I can get the form to display is by adding a space in SQL. Is there another way around this? Check if it is equal to DBNull.Value first and if it is, don't do the cast.Stanley Tan theSpoke Blog Where in the code does it need to go? 'IN' Clause or 'OR'
Hello, [1]: select * from TABLEA where COL1 IN('value1','value2''valu3'....) [2]:select * from TABLEA where COL1 = 'value1' OR COL1= 'value2' OR COL1='valu3'. TABLEA is a huge table and it has non-clustered index on COL1. Among the above 2 queries, which query will give me the better performance or fast response and WHY? What is the difference between 'IN' and 'OR' clauses as for as Sybase Optimization is concerned. Which is the better one to be used on huge tables. Thanks. Mac An IN list is treated ...

'or' or 'union'
Hello I was just wondering, in general what is better to use, an 'or' clause in a select or a 'union' to join two selects together. Do both statements create work tables? Many thanks Alex I think OR will be better than union. because suppose u have 3 tables and using OR u can join table a and table b and table c so each table will have only one read. but using union you will join table a and table b and in another query of union u will use table (a or b) and table c so ur one read is more in union . 'b'..'a'
Hello. I'm using defferent 5.6.0's for Win32. I wonder wheter following behaviour is intentional or not: d:\>perl -e "print 'b'..'c'" bc d:\>perl -e "print 'b'..'a'" bcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyz I expected empty list in latter case, like in perl -e "print 'bb'..'a'" <!ENTITY Vadim REALLIFE "Vadim V.Konovalov, St.Petersburg, Russia"> &Vadim; On Wed, Sep 20, 2000 at 03:14:41PM +0400, Konovalov, Vadim wrote: > Hello. > > I'm using defferent 5.6.0'...

Transforming 'plain' ID to 'adorned' ID
I must be missing something obvious here. Suppose I create an ASP.NET Web User Control, and I use a ModalPopupExtender inside it. In the ascx, I set various properties of the extender to refer to controls within the Web User Control, such as PopupDragHandleControlID="TitleText". At runtime, the control with ID "TitleText" gets a more complicated ID on the rendered page (call it an 'adorned' ID, not sure what the offical term is), such as "ctl00_ContentPlaceHolder1_MyCtrl1_TitleText". The behaviour javascript for the extender does things like - this._dragHandleElement = $get(this._PopupDrag...
