update edir 8.7.3.10 to eDir 8.8 sp5 to all servers or not
we have NW658 , with 7 servers. one master, six read write in the tree. is there a problem if i do an update to only the master eDir 8.7.3.10 to edir 8.8 sp5 and the other servers must wait for updating, and still have edir 8.7.3.10 ? because we want to use nested groups. must the master rep always online so that nested groups are working, so i cant bring the server down, if the servers is down, the nested group did not work too? i there anybody who can explain it to me? or must i have two servers with edir 8.8 sp5 in the tree for redundance, so if one server is down and the second server is up, the edir can handle that nested group edir object in a right way? any ideas to that question? -- 210768m11227 ------------------------------------------------------------------------

To reliably use nested groups all replicas of the partition the group is in, must reside on servers with 8.8.5 . With so few servers. I'd just do them all. Not sure if you've done it yet, but patch 5 is out now, strangely there are no patch notes so I'm not sure whether I'd want to go to it. I see the reference to patch notes in that update points to a TID that hasn't yet been updated with the FTF5 notes. I'll see if I can get that seen to. It gets more interesting, the patch notes are now updated with patch 5 (which fixes the imanager issue). However, the notes now also include Service Pack 6. Our tree: Netware 6.5SP7 and OES2/Linux, edir 8.7.3.10b ftf1 and edir 8.8.SP2 ftf2 I started to install new servers with edir 8.8 some month ago, some of the edir 8.7.3 servers will be switched of before long. Now I want to upgrade the remaining 8.7.3 servers to 8.8. It seemed clear to me that I wouldn't install 8.8.2 if 8.8.3 is out. But after reading the postings here, I am quite unsure... Hi all, having a lot of Netware 6.5 servers in my tree and I want to rollout eDir upgarde from 8.7.3.10 to eDir 8.8.5. Due to the fact not having Zen for Servers I need a way to have an silent / unattended way to rollout the eDir 8.8.5 upgrade. ( e.g. by just executing a simple NCF file ) Some of our boxes already having the eDir 8.8.5 installed so the schema is already extended and an root admin account should not be required. We have NIM 3.5 installed on NetWare 6.5 with eDir 8.7.3. We are bringing in a Linux server with eDir 8.8 and will be migrating to 8.8 systemwide. Knowing that the install of NIM is dependent on the eDir version, I was asked to to answer this question; Will the schema extension for 8.8 adversely affect our current NIM setup? The concern raised is that the schema extension will modify attributes used by NIM running on 8.7.3.
