Access remote URL from local file:// URL

Hi,

I've been reading about security and the same origin policy in
FireFox, but haven't found anything on accessing a URL on a remote
server from a file that was opened from the local disk.

In particular I want to open an XML file with a <?xsl-stylesheet ?>
processing instruction that refers to an XSLT file on a server.
FireFox block this file and doesn't do the transformation.

I've tried changing the security.fileuri.strict_origin_policy to
false, but that doesn't help.
I am using FireFox 3.0.8.

Has anyone any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks,

Freek

This newsgroup is for Firefox general support. You may or may not
find someone who can answer that. Your best bet is to post at
http://groups.google.ca/group/mozilla.dev.apps.firefox/

Live Bookmark from local file (file:// URL) in Firefox 3
Hi, How can I add a Live Bookmark from a local file (file:// URL) in Firefox 3? In Firefox 2, if I go to Bookmarks -> Organize Bookmarks, I get to the Bookmarks Manager... Then I have File -> New Live Bookmark... that allows me to specify a file:// URL in Feed Location... However the same is not available in Firefox 3... And opening the RSS file in the browser just displays it as a XML and does not give me any Feed icons... Any ideas? Thanks, Filipe Anyone? Any way to use JavaScript or something like it to achieve it? I tried the "Force Content-Type&qu...

Save xml file from a URL (load xml file from a URL) [Edit]
Hello friends, I need to save an xml file from a URL. Follow the URL https://mcxnow.com/orders?cur=MCX Please help me. Thank you, Thiago Thiago wrote: > I need to save an xml file from a link. Follow the link > https://mcxnow.com/orders?cur=MCX Please help me. The correct term is URL, not link. Have a look at Indy's TIdHTTP component. For example: {code} MS := TMemoryStream.Create; try // when requesting an HTTPS url, you need to first assign an // SSL IOHandler component, such as TIdSSLIOHandlerSocketOpenSSL, // to the TIdHTTP.IOHandler prope...

File URL To Chrome/Resource URL
Hello all, I'm working on an extension to link Venkman to Komodo with the aim of providing local and remote debugging of XULRunner applications. Small question... nsIChromeRegistry::convertChromeURL and nsIResProtocolHandler::resolveURI provide a convenient way of getting a local file path from chrome:* and registry:* URIs. Anyone know of an equally easy way of doing the opposite? That is, finding the first chrome: or resource: URI resolving to a particular local file: URI? I'm currently painfully walking through the ChromeML directory service, reading man...

url of local file
Hi I have used FastReporter to produce a pdf document and I can send it to the user using AddToInitProc provided the file path is relative. eg AddToInitProc('NewWindow("' + WebApplication.AppURLBase + '/files/myfileXXX.pdf' + '", "Report, "");'); ...(or something like that) That works fine for a relative path (/files/myfileXXX.pdf), but it was suggested that I create the files in WebApplication.UserCacheDir so that the files get cleaned out at the end of a session. I can create the files in in this directory without a problem. Ho...

Media URL/file handling question
Hello, I'm running Mozilla 1.6, as well as Firefox 0.8, on a MacOS X 10.3 system. The behavior I'm describing below is evident in both browsers. I've noticed that different media types are handled differently under my system depending on the player that the media is associated with. I have the three major media players under OS X (Quicktime, RealOne Player, and Windows Media Player 9) installed. If I click on a URL that points to a .mov or .mpg file, handled by Quicktime, the player is embedded in the browser window, and begins playing as soon as a sufficient b...

Accessing Bugzilla from intranet url and from web url
Hi we need to be able to access bugzilla through two separate URLs, one for our on-site intranet users: http://192.168.0.200 and one for secure external access: https://bugzilla.ourdomain.com. In older versions we used to be able to do this by setting urlbase and sslbase to the two addresses above. Unfortunately it seems that in newer versions a user can only login using either http or https and not both, since accessing the secure site redirects to the non secure site if the ssl parameter is not set. Is there a way in which we can easily run bugzilla from both URLS? We cur...
