How to incrementally build

Aside for the obvious, if you want to build directory x, change into
it and |make|, is there any way to build an individual tier of gecko?
The reason I'm asking is because when I make changes to certain files,
then change into their directories and build, the change doesn't
reflect in the app until I do a top level make. timeless had mentioned
on irc that I have to build tier-gecko, is there any argument to make
that will do this for me?

Example file that illustrates this issue is nsGlobalWindow.{cpp|h}

To rebuild the the gecko tier is just "make tier_gecko" in the objdir,
or "make libs_tier_gecko" if you know no header changes that require
export. That may be only be half an answer though - depending what you
change and your build config there may be other things you need to build to.

VS Builds, and Builds, and Builds
Hello, Has anyone else had this problem?  After a while of developing, and I go to compile, VS takes forever to build and I have to end-task it.  It's definitely after I've been working for a while, then it finally has "had it" and just takes forever to build.  It's annoying as I know its not the machine (2.8 GHZ processor and 1GB RAM).  Has anyone else experienced this problem?  By the way, I do have SP1 installed. Also, after minimizing and switching around screens, when it does this, the building icon in the status bar doesn't show.  And, for more informati...

Incremental Build builds too much
We have a large app /w ~20 pbl's that build into dll's. After doing a Full deployment, if I then do a Incremental deployment, PB (version 8.0.3) insists on completely recreating 3 or 4 of the dll's, even if I change nothing. This makes incremental builds take much longer than they used to. I'm guessing this is caused by some kind of dependency between objects in different libraries but I have no idea how to go about troubleshooting this. Any ideas? TIA! Ken Breneman kbreneman@earthlink.net Hi, Ken, This sounds like PB is erring too much on the side of sa...

To build or not to build, that is the question
Hello, ever since I found out that VS.NET could upload all of your pages for you, I have used that method for uploading. However when using the Copy Project option, it seems to restart the aspnet service and the sessions clear. What I'm asking is when is it OK just to manually copy/paste some pages into the website directory w/out actually re-building the site? Right now, I have to wait until there are no users logged into my site to do updates, which are very minor, but include code-behind changes. Can I just upload the updated pages w/out building? In this world there are 10 types of pe...

PB 8.0.02 Build 9506 and Incremental Build
Did anybody experience the incremental build not working or is it just slow in PB 8.0.02 Build 9506. I just completed my native and full build then edit one object then rebuild incremental. It took the same amount of time to full rebuild. (All .dlls and .exe are there) It didn't happen in PB 8.0.01 build ????. Need clarification. Have you done a full build since moving to 8.0.2? I just upgraded and had a strange problem (non-dw objects on a non-local drive taking forever to open) that went away after a full build. Good luck. Greg Holden Eddie_Soeparmin@RhCo.Com w...

Good morning,Following a previous post:http://forums.asp.net/thread/1444162.aspx rbuckton mentioned a new 'CalendarExtender' that's going to be included in the next release of the AJAX Extensions.  I'd like to take a look at the hard work that's been put into it so far, so I downloaded the latest development build (Oct 31 6:38pm) from:http://www.codeplex.com/SourceControl/ListDownloadableCommits.aspx?ProjectName=AtlasControlToolkitI have opened the solution in VS 2005 and removed the source control bindings and tried to build.  The SampleWebSite and ToolkitTests...

Dev Builds of Java SE 7 Plug-ins Not Working In Firefox 3.6a1pre builds
Dev Builds of Java SE 7 Plug-ins have not been working for over a couple of weeks now. I'm using Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.2a1pre) Gecko/20090630 Minefield/3.6a1pre on Windows XP SP3. I'm not sure if I should file a bug with Mozilla or Sun. I know that Mozilla has been making changes under the hood with regards to how Firefox deal with java plug-ins and what not. The plug-in's list in the add-on's window suggests that it is working fine, but when I try to play java games that use the plug-in, it doesn't recognize that I have java ...

How to build a project on Build Service
I have developed a program in Python (PyQt) which, at the moment, is just a folder with all those source, icon, xml etc. files. I zipped it in a *.tar.gz. Then I created a project in the OBS, uploaded the *.tar.gz in the Sources, selected repositories. And it shows the build status is broken. Has anyone built an rpm on OBS before? I just want to make an rpm of my program and make it available from my project repository. Please help me build it. What else do I need to do? I've read the OBS tutorial and guidelines but they don't really tell you step by step what you need to ...

incremental builds
I noticed in PB 9 that when you do incremental builds, compiles only what has changed, but it recreates all the .pbd's. Prior versions, prior to 8, only recreated the .pbds that were changed. Is there a reason that PB 9 does this ? Actually, it's never been true that only PBDs containing object that change get compiled. In fact, objects that reference objects that have changed may need to be recompiled, so their PBDs need rebuilding as well. Now I just did a full build deploy, changed a datawindow, and did an incremental deploy, and only one PBL was changed. In this ...

Incremental build
Why PB8 regenerates all PBLS and build all PBDs in an incremental build ? PB6.5 doesnt do this. I just did a test of this for someone else today, and couldn't reproduce it. PB 8.0.3 changes some things that may affect this, but keep in mind that PB will need to build more than just the changed objects; it will also need to build objects that reference the changed objects.
