Gartner to IT: Avoid Apple's iPhone

Were telling IT executives to not support it because Apple has no
intentions of supporting (iPhone use in) the enterprise, Gartner
analyst Ken Dulaney says. This is basically a cellular iPod with some
other capabilities and its important that it be recognized as such.

[ ]

Youll have e-mail in a place thats unsecured. There are no
firewalls on the device. Theres no ability to wipe (data from) the
device if its lost, Dulaney says.

[ ]

"Businesses tempted by the iPhone should resist for a number of
reasons, Dulaney argues. The high price tag up to $599 is
exorbitant for most enterprises, he says. Even if the iPhone met the
security requirements of an IT executive, theres no real reason for
employees to have one. To make it worthwhile, an enterprise would
expect firewalls to prevent unauthorized access, long-term maintenance
and support commitments, support for an e-mail client like Microsoft
Outlook, and PBX integration."

We'll find out what consumers think in 9 days, but I think the high
price tag and the fact that most users would have to switch cellular
services will make the iphone a nonevent.

Apple's Share Jumps 32%; Vista's Jumps 355%.
Apple fans have made much of the fact that the newest figures from Net Applications show that Apple's share of the operating system market has jumped almost 32% in the past year. But they're ignoring a simple fact: Vista's market share during that same time leaped more than 355%. When you add in other Windows versions, Microsoft owns more than 90% of the market. Net Applications reports that the Mac had 7.94% market share in June, up from 6.03% a year ago. Going from a little more than 6% to just under 8% may be a big gain when measured as a percentage of g...

Use dddw's in reports or modify report sql to avoid dddw's
Is it more efficient to use dddw's in reports or to modify the report sql to avoid the use of dddw's. I am not sure how PB deals with dddw's in reports. Is the result set of the dddw cached in memory and than used by the report or is the dddw sql integrated into the reports sql like what occurs with database views and than sent to the database? I could not find any info on the net about this. Any help would be appreciated. I only recommend using DDDWs for data entry. If you're running a report that needs to show the "description" for a "code" val...

A Fun Read "Apple is a way of life. It's an inspiration, and to some, a religion. Apple is making history by forever changing the world as we know it. But after you've read the articles and biographies and watched the movies and documentaries, you can't help but wonder about Apple's headquarters. What's it like there? And what would it be like to visit? Like Muslims who make the pilgrimage to Mecca, the true Mac faithful eventually find a way to visit the mothership, if only once." John Cash wrote: > ...

Who's show is SN? Steve's or Leo's?
I don't want to start anything (honestly)! Just want to ask a simple question. Does the Security Now podcast belong to Steve Gibson or Leo Laporte? Maybe I'm in a world all to myself, but when I listen to the excellent SN podcasts, I want to hear STEVE, not Leo. But especially in the past few shows, it seems Leo will repeatedly interrupt Steve in the middle of a sentence that I want to hear the rest of. I consider this very rude of Leo. Steve is making a point that I (we) want to hear, then looses his train of thought after Leo barges in and asks something. It...

DataSet's DataTable's and TableAdapter's Oh My!
Here is my situation.  I am using VB as my programming language.I am creating a part of a website that will be the admin section.  I want the admin to be able to add/edit data in a set of tables that normal users can't.  There are 20 lookup tables that I use in the website that I want the admin to be able to manage (i.e. add, edit, delete, insert).  I don't want to create 20 separate web pages (one for each table).  I have one page that has links to all the tables.  Each link has a "table" querystring variable associated with it.  When the...

Two Visions "Chalk it up to the narcissism of small differences. Apple and Microsoft look more like each other than either do any other tech company. They're both software-focused firms in their mid-thirties with global reach in multiple markets. Both make a lot of hardware (although Apple makes more). Both of their CEOs are stuck with the impossible job of following founder-prophets who saw the futu...

411 it's pconsole, 51 it's NWPMW32, 65 it's ???
I like to give some of my users controll over their print jobs. In Netware 3.x to 4.x it was pconsole. In Netware 5.x it was NWPMW32. I don't seem to be able to find the same type of utility for Netware 6.5? We don't like to give user access to nwadmin and the NWPMW32 I copied from my 51 server (TID 10075273) to the 65 server won't display the jobs.
