ExceptionPolicy logs differently to event log than to text log
I am implementing an exception policy in the business layer and in the presentation layer of my web application as per the block below.  When an exception happens in the business layer, it bubbles on up to the aspx, which in turn throws the error, thus invoking the default error page defined in web.config.  All well and good.  The strangeness is that only one exception is logged to the event log, but both throws are caught in the text log.  Why the discrepancy? Thanks.    Catch ex As Exception Dim rethrow As Boolean re...

Writing events to the Event Log in ASP.NET
Hi, I write haldled/unhandled errors to the Event Log. When I try and write to the log, it tells me that I may not have write access. I have added the ASP.NET account to the local Admin group and my account is also part ofthe local Admin group. Any ideas? C Hi, ASPNET already should have enough permissions to write to the Application EventLog without elevation of privs (or change of role). However, it does not have enough permissions to create a new event source. To create a new event source, the ASPNET account need to be able to write to the following registry keys. ...

Trouble writing events to custom event logs
Hello all,I have created two custom event logs for my ASP .NET web applications.  For now, let's call them Log A and Log B.  For some reason, whenever one of my programs writes an error to Log A, the error will show up in both Log A and Log B.If I try to write an error to Log A, the error will show up in Log A as it should, with the proper description :Description :This error should appear in Log A.However, it will also show up in Log B, with a description that looks like this :Description:The description for Event ID ( 0 ) in Source ( MySource ) cannot be found. The local computer...

XP failed log-on in W2K Event Log
Greetings, I run W2K at work and audit failed log-on attempts. We have several Domains at work and run IPX/SPX (for Netware) and TCP/IP. In the past I have located a couple of users with Trojans on their laptops through the failed log-ons recorded in the Security Logs of several of the machines that I look after. Recently I started getting failed log-ons from machines that I later found to be running XP. The log-on attempts were not of a pattern that suggests a Trojan and at least one of the users is sufficiently experienced to be able to be free of any malware. He states that he ...

How do I find out which event source is trying to write in the event log?
I've got a SmartPart web part on a WSS 2.0 page. The SmartPart hosts a Web User Control.ascx file. The Web User Control tries to insert a work item in a TFS-server. event logging
Other than the errorlogging object, is there another way to log messeges to the Windows Application event log? I'm not logging errors because I never get any. The event log API is pretty simple, so you could call it from PB. However, the Event Log view requires a DLL that includes a resource for the messages. If you don't care about internationalization, the DLL can be quite simple. Matter of fact, the DLL wouldn't need any entry points other that dllmain and wep. And the message resource would only have to have a single message that accepted a string as a parameter. ...
