This change makes it so we handle and propagate stream errors back to the state
machine. I really don't know if this is going to fix the problem, but it does
fix a problem I was seeing where we were not clearing the running protocol
object on the pop3 server, and not clearing the open folder, in the case of
stream errors, so the fix obviously makes us go through the cleanup code when
we weren't before.
