Module-Metadata in 5.20.2

The list of proposed commits for 5.20.2 includes

CPAN RT#101095 Module::Metadata does not extract correct version if
use_our is enabled

That fix is imported into blead by the upgrade to 1.000025 in commit
adc2cdfb25, but maint-5.20 currently contains only 1.000019, so
upgrading to 1.000025 would involve bringing in all of this:

1.000025 2015-01-04 18:56:00Z
  - evaluate version assignment in a clean environment, to fix assignment i=
n a
    block (RT#101095)

1.000024 2014-06-03 01:52:46Z
  - fix inaccurate prerequisite declaration on Test::More (in 1.000023)

1.000023 2014-06-02 02:37:17Z
  - support installations on older perls with an ExtUtils::MakeMaker earlie=
r
    than 6.63_03

1.000022 - 2014-04-29
  - work around change in comparison behaviour in Test::More 0.95_01 by bei=
ng
more explicit with our tests - now explicitly checking the string form =
of
the extracted version, rather than the entire version object
  - ensure the extracted version is returned as a version object in all cas=
es
    (RT#87782, Randy Stauner)

1.000021 - 2014-04-29
  - fix use of newer interface from File::Path, to avoid another prereq on
    older perls (Graham Knop, PR#7)
  - fixed all out of date prereq declarations

1.000020 - 2014-04-27
  - new is_indexable() object method (ether, RT#84357)
  - eliminated dependency on IO::File (and by virtue, XS) - thanks, leont!
  - removed cruft in test infrastructure left behind from separation from
    Module::Build (ether)
  - repository moved to https://github.com/Perl-Toolchain-Gang/Module-Metad=
ata
  - .pm file is now wholly ascii, for nicer fatpacking (RT#95086)
  - some code micro-optimizations (Olivier Mengu=C3=83=C2=A9, PR#4)

I do not think that would be appropriate for maint-5.20, so instead I
propose pulling in just the fix for CPAN RT#101095, i.e. this commit:

https://github.com/Perl-Toolchain-Gang/Module-Metadata/commit/26b9aa41977d1=
73187ede63111e5ce977339b0d0#diff-1

and bumping the $VERSION to 1.000019_01.

The attached patch (against maint-5.20) does this. That is what I
intend to put into maint-5.20, subject to the required number of
votes.

I suggest not upgrading for that. The "use_our" under discussion is a
Dist::Zilla feature that is recent, discouraged, and going away, specifical=
ly
due to this problem. Almost nobody ever used it, probably 99.9% the featur=
e's
author, who has now removed use of it.

So, rather than mess with blead, I suggest we leave it be.

Dissent welcome.

I concur.
Last weekend when the problem emerged I was quite alarmed and thought we
would be seeing widespread problems, but those fears turned out to be
rather overinflated.

I'd still like to confirm that there are no instances of the buggy $VERSION
syntax in the wild (an update of grep.cpan.me would help there), but I
haven't heard of any problems, so I don't think we need to push the fix
into 5.20.2.

I assume you mean "mess with maint" - it's in blead already.

I added it to the list of proposals for 5.20.2 on the suggestion of Karen
Etheridge: https://rt.perl.org/Public/Bug/Display.html?id=122913#txn-1323951

As I said, I was intending only to apply that fix to maint, not upgrade to
the latest CPAN version, but I wasn't aware that the feature was
discouraged as you say. Given that, I have no objection to dropping the fix
from the list of backport proposals.

Security Advisory for Bugzilla 2.18.5, 2.20.2, 2.22, and 2.23.2
Summary ======= Bugzilla is a Web-based bug-tracking system, used by a large number of software projects. This advisory covers six security issues that have recently been fixed in the Bugzilla code: + Sometimes the information put into the <h1> and <h2> tags in Bugzilla was not properly escaped, leading to a possible XSS vulnerability. + Bugzilla administrators were allowed to put raw, unfiltered HTML into many fields in Bugzilla, leading to a possible XSS vulnerability. Now, the HTML allowed in those fields is limited. + attachment.cgi could leak the n...

collectstats.pl --regenerate took over 5 hours from 2.20 to 2.20.1
Hi, I ran "collectstats.pl" once on 23.03.06, than, after upgrading this (test-)installation to Bugzilla 2.20.1 I ran "collectstats.pl --regenerate" and it took over 5 hours to complete, having 100% CPU Usage. Why did this take so long? And what is it doing when regenerating? PS: 2,13 GHz PC with 2 GB RAM Thank you in advance, kind regards, powermax123 ...

Topics of Interest Function prototyping and op/utftaint.t failures in "blead" in "Win32" Yves Orton first starting looking at smoke failures on Win32, and wondered why he was seeing redefined subroutines in "Getopt::Long", but Nicholas Clark stepped up and said that Yves had been caught out by a glitch that had since been fixed in the source code. Steve Hay and ...

[wxperl-users] wxPerl-0.20 Source Build on OSX.3.5/wxPython 2.5.2.7
I've just built wxPerl 0.20 as indicated in the subject, and I had a few issues: First, the syntax for wx-config used in Any_wx_config.pm::get_core_libs_25 seems to have changed: Instead of "--libs=list" it's now "--libs list". Next, Makemaker is building the root Makefile with both blibdirs: and blibdirs::. That produces an error. Changing the single colon to a double colon fixes the problem, but it has to be done every time one runs Makefile.PL. I couldn't figure out where to fix it in the MakeMaker files. Last, could you take out the...
