--047d7bfd0150ebf47e050c623b18 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable The list of proposed commits for 5.20.2 includes CPAN RT#101095 Module::Metadata does not extract correct version if use_our is enabled That fix is imported into blead by the upgrade to 1.000025 in commit adc2cdfb25, but maint-5.20 currently contains only 1.000019, so upgrading to 1.000025 would involve bringing in all of this: 1.000025 2015-01-04 18:56:00Z - evaluate version assignment in a clean environment, to fix assignment i= n a block (RT#101095) 1.000024 2014-06-03 01:52:46Z - fix inaccurate prerequisite declaration on Test::More (in 1.000023) 1.000023 2014-06-02 02:37:17Z - support installations on older perls with an ExtUtils::MakeMaker earlie= r than 6.63_03 1.000022 - 2014-04-29 - work around change in comparison behaviour in Test::More 0.95_01 by bei= ng more explicit with our tests - now explicitly checking the string form = of the extracted version, rather than the entire version object - ensure the extracted version is returned as a version object in all cas= es (RT#87782, Randy Stauner) 1.000021 - 2014-04-29 - fix use of newer interface from File::Path, to avoid another prereq on older perls (Graham Knop, PR#7) - fixed all out of date prereq declarations 1.000020 - 2014-04-27 - new is_indexable() object method (ether, RT#84357) - eliminated dependency on IO::File (and by virtue, XS) - thanks, leont! - removed cruft in test infrastructure left behind from separation from Module::Build (ether) - repository moved to https://github.com/Perl-Toolchain-Gang/Module-Metad= ata - .pm file is now wholly ascii, for nicer fatpacking (RT#95086) - some code micro-optimizations (Olivier Mengu=C3=83=C2=A9, PR#4) I do not think that would be appropriate for maint-5.20, so instead I propose pulling in just the fix for CPAN RT#101095, i.e. this commit: https://github.com/Perl-Toolchain-Gang/Module-Metadata/commit/26b9aa41977d1= 73187ede63111e5ce977339b0d0#diff-1 and bumping the $VERSION to 1.000019_01. The attached patch (against maint-5.20) does this. That is what I intend to put into maint-5.20, subject to the required number of votes. --047d7bfd0150ebf47e050c623b18 Content-Type: text/x-diff; charset=US-ASCII; Last weekend when the problem emerged I was quite alarmed and thought we would be seeing widespread problems, but those fears turned out to be rather overinflated. I'd still like to confirm that there are no instances of the buggy $VERSION syntax in the wild (an update of grep.cpan.me would help there), but I haven't heard of any problems, so I don't think we need to push the fix into 5.20.2. --089e0111c046c9ac5e050c68168e Content-Type: text/html; charset=UTF-8 Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable <div dir=3D"ltr"><div class=3D"gmail_extra"><div class=3D"gmail_quote">On S= un, Jan 11, 2015 at 1:46 PM, Ricardo Signes <span dir=3D"ltr"><<a href= =3D"mailto:perl.p5p@rjbs.manxome.org" target=3D"_blank">perl.p5p@rjbs.manxo= me.org</a>></span> wrote:<br><blockquote class=3D"gmail_quote" style=3D"= margin:0 0 0 .8ex;border-left:1px #ccc solid;padding-left:1ex"><span class= =3D""></span>I suggest not upgrading for that.=C2=A0 The "use_our"= ; under discussion is a<br> Dist::Zilla feature that is recent, discouraged, and going away, specifical= ly<br> due to this problem.=C2=A0 Almost nobody ever used it, probably 99.9% the f= eature's<br> author, who has now removed use of it.<br> <br> So, rather than mess with blead, I suggest we leave it be.<br></blockquote>= <div><br></div><div>I concur.<br></div><div>Last weekend when the problem e= merged I was quite alarmed and thought we would be seeing widespread proble= ms, but those fears turned out to be rather overinflated.<br><br>I'd st= ill like to confirm that there are no instances of the buggy $VERSION synta= x in the wild (an update of <a href=3D"http://grep.cpan.me">grep.cpan.me</a= > would help there), but I haven't heard of any problems, so I don'= t think we need to push the fix into 5.20.2.<br></div></div></div></div> --089e0111c046c9ac5e050c68168e--
