Transfering VCL Form App from Delphi to Builder

Hey all.

Is there any way I can transfer my VCL forms application from Delphi to C++ Builder? I don't need to transfer the functionality, I'm recoding everything but I just need to copy the layout. So I thought maybe theres a way I can duplicate or export/import the form layout to C++ Builder? It's an mp3 player I was working on last year in Delphi code, and I'm recoding it in C++ but I'm still going to use the same layout. And it's a simple layout, just a couple of listboxes, buttons, scrollbars etc.

Any ideas?

Copy and paste from one form to the other should work just fine.

Since Delphi and C++Builder share the same VCL, you can re-use the same DFM
files.

How to convert an MDI app to a paned app like the Delphi IDE
I have an old app that uses the MDI style. And I would like to modernise it to use multiple docked/paned windows (e.g something like MS Outlook or the Delphi IDE say). Does anyone have any tips about what needs to be done to migrate my current MDI Forms to the new UI concept. (The app is several hundred thousand lines of code, so a rewrite is out of the question...) AndrewFG Andrew Fiddian-Green wrote: > I have an old app that uses the MDI style. calling a c++ dll from a delphi vcl app crashes the app upon exit [Edit]
I am using RAD Studio 2010 and I downloaded the latest updates. Since I can't see how I can attach a file to the message, I included in this message the source code for each file: To reproduce this problem follow these steps: Create a project group with two projects, one c++ dll project and one a Delphi VCL forms project. Save all the files in the same folder. 1. Use the wizard to create the c++ dll project, select c++ & Use VCL checkboxes. Make sure Project Options->C++ Linker->Dynamic RTL is set to true. I also added memmgr.lib and sharemem.obj to the project but I bel...

conver a windows forms app into a aspx web forms app
Hi, i remember reading somewere that a windows forms application can be "translated" to web forms application in .Net. ¿Is that true?. ¿How can I do it?¿does it work in visual studio 2003? Thanks a lot! Mikel There is no automatic wizard that will convert an ASP.NET app to WinForms, or a WinForms app to ASP.NET.  However, a number of the concepts are similar between the two models and you will be able to re-use all of your non-UI specific code.  The broader .NET Framework class library is also the same.Hope this helps you  If y...

Generated Delphi apps and inheritance of forms
Hi! We've been using PowerDesigner and Delphi 3 on a project for several months now, and we've developed a technique that seems to work very well. Whenever we've generated a form using PowerDesigners AppModeler, instead of ever changing that particular form, we inherit from it and change it's descendant. This means that whatever changes we make to the generated forms stay when we have to regenerate. (sometime there are small problems when datatypes are changed, or fields are deleted, but never any biggies) Is anyone else using this particular technique? It has saved...

Transfering a Form app into a Service application
So I have written this Database server. Which currently simply runs as a VCL Forms Application. Ignoring the Main form and the Debug log form, there are also about 10 Forms in the application which I use to drop Timers on. There are several threads in use (Indy10 TCP stuff). Now I want to 'convert' the program to a Service application. I started a new Service Application, and I see that the main unit has a OnExecute procedure. But: - How do I link my original Forms Application into the OnExecute loop? (if that is what I should do?) - If I get this running, is it still possibl...

Forms and vcl.forms unit
In XE2, I'm adding a form to an application that is several versions old. The old version had Use Forms, not vcl.forms. XE2 adds vcl.forms to the new form, of course. I tried to use forms.screen... as I used to. The compiler said that I needed to have Forms (and added it in the implementation section). Then it would not compile, saying that vcl.forms was redeclared. To get it to work, I had to change vcl.forms to Forms and omit the other Use Forms. Is this a bug of some sort? (It doesn't seem to realize that vcl.forms takes the place of forms, or something.) Ju...

Migrating a VCL Delphi 7 app to the web.
Hello all. Please forgive me if this topic has been discussed recently. I just couldn't find anything related in the last few hours. We have a VCL-MDI client-server application developed since delphi 2, and now ported to delphi 7. It has a separation between the data layer, business layer and UI layer (more-less strict). It is now running on a FireBird 1.5 database. What are the best options you know in order to make it a web application? I hope it's not too vague this question. I'm not THE expert, as you can see. Any help will be greatly appreciated. (Pointing to r...

Starting a Delphi app without main form
I use a "home-grown" application architecture pattern based on 'Managers' for some of my Delphi apps: 'Manager' objects(.pas files) dispatch 'Agent' objects (also .pas files), and 'Agent' objects present and control GUI objects (forms) to interact with users. So in this architecture, I instantiate a particular manager and request a service, for example, accountMgr.defineNewAcct. The accountMgr object then dispatches the appropriate agent object which uses a variety of forms to handle user inputs. I can apply this architecture to everyt...

Renaming VCL form in C++ Builder XE3
When i add a new VCL form to my project XE3 gives it a default name of TForm<number>.h /.cpp. When i go and change the name to something more meaningful (btw why on earth doesn't XE3 bother to +ask+ me what name i'd like assign it like VS does) in the .h and .cpp file XE3 throws errors when i compile it. So i'm left with a bunch of forms of type TForm1 and TForm2 as well as source files called Unit1 and Unit2 etc. Is there a way for me to name things the way i want in xe3 ? Overall i like the product bu t it's stupid things like this that let it down. Hi Tanvir Ta...

VCL Forms App: Getting list of Open windows
I have a VCL Forms application. Sometimes there are many Windows (Forms) open, but there is currently no way to pickup one which is hidden behind the others. It there a way where I can copy an Application message when a Form.Show is called, and from that message get an handle, and using that handle grab the Caption so I can make a list of open windows? And after that, I need the code to use same Handle to call a BringToFront... You were unchecking it anyway. The real problem is that if you set the Target Framework to None, you will get unresolved external errors in VCL files. So you are basically stuck making a VCL project. But at least you can re...
