Uploading files to server and adding new file to database

Hello guys,

I need to enable client computers to be able to upload pictures to a folder on my server. After doing some search, I managed to get it working. Here's my code:

  <script language="VB" runat="server">

   Sub Upload(Source As Object, e As EventArgs)

    If Not (myFile.PostedFile Is Nothing) Then

     Dim intFileNameLength as Integer
     Dim strFileNamePath as String
     Dim strFileNameOnly as String

     'Logic to find the FileName (excluding the path)
     strFileNamePath = MyFile.PostedFile.FileName
     intFileNameLength = Instr(1, StrReverse(strFileNamePath), "\")
     strFileNameOnly = Mid(strFileNamePath, (Len(strFileNamePath)-intFileNameLength)+2)

     myFile.PostedFile.SaveAs("c:\inetpub\uploads\" & strFileNameOnly)
     lblMsg.Text = "File Upload Success."

     'Dim OleDbConnection2 As New OleDbConnection _
     '("provider=Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0; Data Source=C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\company\company.mdb")
     Dim strSQL2 As String = "INSERT INTO picName VALUES ('" + MyFile.PostedFile.FileName + "')"
     Dim cmd2 As New OleDbCommand(strSQL2, OleDbConnection2)

     lb_error.Text = ex.Message

    End If
   End Sub
  <h3>File Upload</h3>
  <form enctype="multipart/form-data" runat="server" ID="Form1">
   File: <input id="myFile" type="file" runat="server" NAME="myFile">&nbsp;
   <input type="button" value="Upload" OnServerClick="upload" runat="server" ID="Button1" NAME="Button1">
   <asp:label id="lblMsg" runat="server" />

However, the problem now arises that I need to record the addition of every new file to an access database. So, I tried to create OLEDBconnections and commands inside the function. However, it does not seem to recognize OLEDBconnections with this error:

Description: An error occurred during the compilation of a resource required to service this request. Please review the following specific error details and modify your source code appropriately.

Compiler Error Message: BC30002: Type 'OleDbCommand' is not defined.

My guess is that, since the functions were not done in the code-behind section but rather at the HTML section, it causes the problem. I cannot simply drag and drop the OLEDBconnections and commands from the designing part of VB.NET since I need the contents of myFile.

So, any ideas? Thanks in advance

You need reference to System.Data.OleDB namespace.
Add "Imports System.Data.OleDB" to your vb source file.

How do I save it to a different machine? What all I need? Do I need IP address? Do I need to have a shared folder on that machine? thank u for the help!!! File Upload Problem
Hi Everyone,I was grateful to be able to download the code for uploading files into a folder from Sreedhar's web page. The code works well, but whenever there is another new file with the same file name being uploaded into the destination folder, the old file will be replaced. I am wondering if there is any way to solve this problem (How about adding a number to the new file's name, e.g. File1.doc, if there is an existing File.doc?) I am an absolute beginner and any help is deeply appreciated.The original code is as follows: <%@ Page Language="VB" MasterPageFile="~/MasterP...

Adding file information to SQL database on file upload
Hi there :) I'm in the final stage of my asp.net project and one of the last things I need to do is add the following file information to my SQL server 2000 database when a file is uploaded: First of all I have a resource table to which I need to add: - filename - file_path - file_size (the resource_id has a auto increment value) so that should hopefully be straight forward when the file is uploaded. The next step is to reference the new resource_id in my module_resource table. My module resource table consists of: - resource_id (foreign key) - module_id (foreign k...

Processes file content before upload (from file upload form)
Hello I have a web aplication that needs to process file content (client side) before uploading them to server. May be I have to use file upload form and somehow read files and sign them on submit event I'm not sure how (and can I) do this in Firefox extension? I prefer to use browser functionality for file upload rather than make my own HTTP connection from my extension. I also prefer not to write any user interface. Importing text file (possibly a excel file) via a web-form to a database.
Hey there - I'm sort of new to this and have a question - which in itself is probably easy, I'm just having trouble finding it. I need to import a text file - possibly later an excel file - into a SQL database via a web-form upload function. Can anyone point me in the right direction? A tutorial page that you know of or sample code, possibly? Any help would be appreciated. File upload in chunks
So I downloaded the files from codeproject for the "upload files in chunks" application at http://www.codeproject.com/KB/XML/MTOMWebServices.aspx?df=100&forumid=250646&exp=0&select=2292508 I've adapted the c# code into vb.net and tests I run locally show it working ok.  Trouble is, the client side was written for windows application level client, not web, so I'm wondering if anyone has already got a bit of client side web coding to take an uploaded file and split it into chunks that is compatible with this web service at all? Well I use MTOM and WSE 3.0 ...
