I have a cash and carry web site that customers can order products, the next day come in to the company to pay and pickup.
I would like to create a windows application for the company to do two things:
1. download all the orders from the day before
2. upload price changes, product changes, category changes
I've search the internet and forums and the only thing I can find that I think would actually link these two together would be a web service. Can you please tell me if I am heading in the right direction or if there is another method to link the two applications, if there are any pitf...Using Server.Redirect I am calling a web form. When I close the new form, the app closes.
How do I prevent closing the web application when I only want to close the form I have just opened? I am using a linkbutton to open the new form. It opens fine but when I close that form, the web application closes also. any suggestions?
and welcome to the ASP.NET forums.
A Server.Redirect only tells your browser to retrieve a new webform and stays in the same browser so the behavior you're experiencing is correct. What behavior do you want to achieve?

Based on my understanding, you want to know the differences between the ASP.NET web application and ASP.NET mobile web application. If I have misunderstood you, please feel free to let me know.
The ASP.NET forms are used to develop the ASP.NET pages for desktop browsers and The ASP.NET mobile forms are used to develop the ASP.NET pages for mobile device browsers. When we create the ASP.NET mobile web forms pages, we can use nearly all the features of ASP.NET. But there are a couple of compatibility issues:

we are creating a database driven website as part of our project. currently we have forms connecting to the database created in visual basic. these windows forms we need to convert into web forms which are asp .net compatible. can u give me an answer or show me a way.
because of the difference in nature between web and win applications you'll need to reimplement at least the UI part. If you have a multitiered application in which the busines logic and data access are in different parts/assemblies you can reuse them.

To the dot net Knights. Many humble thanks in advance from a dot net surf. We have an vb application that opens multiple instances of IE object, each to different web pages. It then takes information from the current record in the app, populates fields on each of the web pages, and them submits the forms. We are then able to look at the resulting web pages and quickly get the info we're looking for. This prevents us from having to manually navigate to each web site, enter the same information and then wait for the page to open. In putting together an ASP.NET application for a biz application, we have come to the point where there are three different types of basic forms which have, for the most part, been perfected. Now its is a matter of cloning those forms for various uses and modifying or adding code to suit the particular need.
Copy and paste works OK, but there is a lot of changing of certain words, etc.
Is there a way in ASP.NET to take these basic forms, turn them into classes or templates, create forms from them, then add or overwrite code? ? (Anybody who is a Vis Fox Pro programmer would know imme...Web forms and mobile web forms

I wish to group textboxes, labels, listboxs etc on a frame on my web form. I would this to be structured and drag-and-drop like you would with a group box on a windows form. When I add items to my frame, they all squash up to the top-left of the frame.
How do I get around this?
> I would this to be structured and drag-and-drop
You can only achieve this sort of placement with an editor that supports Grid Layout, such as VS.NET or Dreamweaver.
Without Grid Layout, all controls will "flow" from the top left.
What IDE/editor are you using?Alister
