byte[] buffer = System.Text.ASCIIEncoding.ASCII.GetBytes( "Your string here" );
string stuff = System.Convert.ToBase64String( buffer );

charset/base64 encoding/encode.
Still futzing around with email and character sets. Under Encode and perluniintro there's mention of octet \x{..} (255 chars up to \xff string some internal representation code point \x{...} 1, 2 or more bytes of data But I'm not sure about the order of things. So I'll try this: I have a MIME messsage part like the following: Content-Type: text/plain; charset="BIG5" Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64 1eLKx9K7t+JIVE1MuPHKvdDFvP6joQ0KCqFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFY oVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWKFYoVihWAqhaapgt06haqRX...

[FYI] use encoding 'non-utf8-encoding'; use CGI;
I am currently writing yet another CGI book. That is for the Japanese market and written in Japanese. So it is inevitable that you have to face the labyrinth of character encoding. Before perl 5.8.0, most book teaches how to handle Japanese in CGI goes as follows; * stick with EUC-JP. it does not poison perl like Shift_JIS. * use jcode.pl or Jcode.pm when you have to convert encoding. * you can use jcode::tr or Jcode->tr when you have to convert between Hiragana and Katakana fine, so far. But.... * totally forget regex unless you are happy with a very counter-int...

Use of encode([$encoding]) in MARC-XML
I'm attempting to use XSL (on a Windows server) to transform XML that I generated using MARC::File::XML. =20 However, I keep running into errors because of illegal characters. =20 I have the feeling that using encode([$encoding]) might get me closer to a solution, but I haven't figured out how to apply it. Any pointers? Thanks! Base64 encoding
Hi, I have to encode / decode binary data. With Delphi XE2 I found two functions: - TIdDecoderMIME class from Indy Library - EncodeBase64 / DecodeBase64 from unit Soap.EncdDecd As far as I understand, both do the same. So what is the prefered function to use? Or are there differences? cu Christian Christian, > As far as I understand, both do the same. So what is the prefered > function to use? Or are there differences? although Indy ships with Delphi it is a third party component. As long as possible it is the preferred way to use the Delphi functionality. -- ...

doubled Encode.pm: ext\Encode\Encode.pm and lib\Encode.pm
Hello, developers! Currently @15439 I see some surprising situation: Encode.pm has doubled: ext\Encode\Encode.pm lib\Encode.pm moreover, its documentation friends have also doubled: ext\Encode\lib\EncodeFormat.pod ext\Encode\lib\Encode\Details.pod ext\Encode\lib\Encode\Supported.pod ext\Encode\lib\Encode\Encoding.pm lib\EncodeFormat.pod lib\encode\Details.pod lib\encode\Supported.pd lib\encode\Encoding.pm and so have the .enc files: ext\Encode\Encode lib\Encode So I see the following locations have surprising content: lib\Encode ext\Encode ext\Encode\E...

Encode vs encoding
Hi to all list users. Can someone *please* explain me the difference between (except the scope) encoding and Encode::encode()? I know encoding affects all the code, but what else does it do to do the right thing or am I missing something with Encode? I'm using ActivePerl 5.8.4 build 810 under Windows 2000 and here are the examples: #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; my $char = "\xFE"; print ord $char; # prints 254 #!/usr/bin/perl -w use strict; use Encode; my $char = "\xFE"; $char = encode 'ISO-8859-9', $char; print ord $char; # prints 6...

[PATCH] Encode.pm to use escape-sequence encoding
Hello, here is a patch for Encode.pm to use escape-sequence encoding. Known problems: (1) For present, any compiled encodings (ASCII, ISO-8859-*, etc.) are not available for the code extension of escape-sequence encoding. (2) encodings with SINGLE SHIFTs (SS2, SS3) are not avaliable. Modification: (1) iso2022-jp.enc and iso2022-kr.enc may contain the GR characters ("\xA0" .. "\xFF"). According to RFC1554 (ISO-2022-JP-2) and RFC1557 (Korean Character Encoding for Internet Messages), they must be in 7 bit format. So, the following files ar...

system.text.encoding.ASCII
My application generates an encoded e-mail that gets sent to our mainframe. Decoding Base64 encoded text
I am trying to use TIdDecoderMIME to decode a base64 encoded file using TIdDecoderMIME.DecodeString. The decoded file is not coming out the same as the original. I have stepped through the code with the debugger and everything is fine until we get to Result := IdGlobal.ReadStringFromStream(LStream, -1, Indy8BitEncoding); in DecodeString. Deep in the guts of this routine it ends up calling MultiByteToWideChar, which is screwing up the decoded string. The string that I am trying to decode is straight 8 bit, not mutli-byte. Obviously I am using the wrong component. How do I...
