Upgrade to release build gives "The project type is not supported by this installation"

I had the RC version of WAP and it worked great.  Uninstalled it, re-installed latest, rebooted my machine and tried opening existing solution is VS2005.  Got the following error "The project  type is not supported by this installation".   Is there something I can manually tweak either in my solution or project file to get this to load?

It sounds like Web Application Projects are not fully installed. Here are a few of the registry keys that should exist if installed.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\VisualStudio\8.0\InstalledProducts\Web Application Projects

Also you should have version 8.0.60504.0 of this file installed.

C:\Program Files\Microsoft Visual Studio 8\Common7\IDE\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Web.Application.dll

There are other keys and files installed but if these are not present it’s definitely not installed correctly.

Can you confirm that you have these items on your computer? Can you try re-installing to see if that fixes the problem?

"The project type is not supported by this installation"
Hi, I setup a new machine with the following configurations: -Visual Studio 2008, SP1 -.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 - ASP.NET MVC Preview 5. When I create a new project using the ASP.NET MVC template, I got the error "The project type is not supported by this installation." I see the exact same error when I try to open an existing MVC project I developed on a MVC Preview 4 machine. I figure it might be something missing on the new machine. Any suggestions? Thanks, Yi...

Web deployment project
I created a web deployment project - merge all files to singe assembly output. I am puzzled which files do I need to deploy.I end up with "release" folder and many files in it ,and a "bin" folder inside with my precompiled single assembly and again someadditional files.I do not see a web config file in this folder. So my question is do I need to deploy "release" or "bin" folder or just the precompiled single assembly to my remote web server ?? Also what happens to a web.config file in this case ??   Thanks     Did you choose &quo...

Trying to bring in 1.1 project as VS2005 "Web Application Project"
I have a 1.1 project from a few years ago and am trying to turn it into a 2.0 project, but when i open VS2005 (with SP1 installed) and then open the "sln" or "vbproj" file in the project, i get prompted with "The following web web projects must be convered to the new Web Site format" Where is the option to use Web Application Project instead of Web Site format?   Wasn't that one of the "gee whiz" things MS was bragging about in Service Pack 1?"If you make it idiot proof, they'll build a better idiot" I think you can try ...

How do I create a VB Template that will appear in the "New Project"/"Visual Basic Projects" dialog?
In vb6, I have a very simple app that consists of a windows form, a multiline textbox, some SQL connection strings and a simple method to output text to the multiline textbox. I use this template when I create throw-away test projects to see if something works or not. This was REAL SIMPLE to have it show up in VB6: I just put the project into the ...vb98\Template... directories and it just worked. How do I do the same thing in VS.Net 2003? I found some similar looking directories, but putting the solution files there did nothing.Help would be most greatly appreciated.Owen Well, I almost have...

I don't have "Release" build available for my project
I have ASP.NET project with only Debug build available. How can I switch between release and debug versions of the build? In the default web project model for 2005, you can switch between debug and release in web.config. I have some details here: http://odetocode.com/Blogs/scott/archive/2005/11/15/2464.aspxScotthttp://www.OdeToCode.com/blogs/scott/ What is ConfigurationManager in VS2005 doing then? If you have only a web project, then nothing. If you have other projects, like non-web projects, a web deployment project, or one of the new web application projects, then CM manager is se...

My ASP.net project compiles fine, but when I select Project/Copy Project, Copy project is not lit up or enabled.  Any ideas?   What version of Visual Studio are you using? Sorrry, meant to say that it is Visual Studio 2008.  Works fine in Visual Studio 2003. "The project-to-project reference with GUID"?
Hi! I got an error message while I was upgrading a VS 2003 Web Project to be a VS 2005 Web Application Project. The message is as follows: MSB2014: The project-to-project reference with GUID {EAE2FF47-6EE9-4A96-B26F-220C6D0D9979} cannot be converted because it is not listed in the file 'D:\mysolution.sln'. The solution consists of some projects each of which does have some relations with the others. But I don't have any idea about "Project-to-project reference with GUID", and I am wondering whether this will cause any problem w...

"Link-", "Libs-" and "Import-" -entries in CB2010-project file
Hi. Could anyone explain to me, what the meaning of the different "link/lib/import"-entries in the project-file is? I'm confused. Using the GUI there is only the "Runtime package"-list - the reason and function for that one, I do understand. But what do the others? And which one *is* the "Runtime package"-list?? <LinkPackageStatics></LinkPackageStatics> <LinkPackageImports></LinkPackageImports> <PackageImports></PackageImports> <AllPackageLibs></AllPackageLibs> Thanks a lot!
