Migration issues in UI portion of .Net 1.1 from VS 2003 to VS 2005

Hi there,

We are trying to migrate VS2003 app (client and web app) into VS 2005. We were successful compiling the application. But when we try to run the app from Web it gives us the following error:

Unable to locate the file containing one of the providers referenced in web.config.  Please check your file and correct the error
Could not load file or assembly 'file:///C:\DDDD\UI\bin\some..dll' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.

Everything seems to be going well but I am not sure what I need to do.
Thanks

JOhn

Hi John -

Is the client app referencing the web app (or the other way around)?  If it's the client app that is referencing the Web App - then I think the problem may lie in the fact that in VS2005, web applications no longer create an assembly (remember before a compiled web app would cause an assembly to be created in the \bin) and therefore can't be referenced.

Here is a link to a whitepaper that describes what to do in this case (a web project being referenced):  Step-By-Step Guide to Converting Web Projects from Visual Studio .NET 2002/2003 to Visual Studio 2005.  Specifically, review the section entitled:  'Removing References to Web Projects'

Differences between .net 1, .net 1.1, .net 2.0 and .net 3.0 #2
Hi, This seems to be a common question, but i havent got an answer yet:(Can, any one please explain me the differences between these versions. If you keep your feet firmly on the ground, you'll have trouble putting on your pants! There are too many differences for one email - - from 1.0 to 1.1 (not a whole lot of real change, other than fixes, at least compared to 1.1 to 2.0) With 2.0, there were many new declarative controls, with many new ideas added in With 3.0, it's a superset of 2.0 - instead of replacing the installation completely, it just 'added on' new functionality - I would...

Do I need VS 1.0 to install VS 2003 (.NET 1.1)?
I got a new computer where I will need to install my copies of VS 2003 and VS 2005.  All copies are legal with original disks.   I purchased VS 2003 as an upgrade to VS.NET that came before VS 2003.  Do I need to install that very first version 1.0 of VS in order to install VS 2003? Thank you in advance.   If it's an upgrade version, then you will need the previous version installed.Darrell Norton, MVPDarrell Norton's BlogPlease mark this post as answered if it helped you! Upgrade/migration issues from VS2003+.NET 1.1 to VS2005+.NET 2.0
Hi,  Visual Studio is great when everything works well and you don't know what is happening under the hood. However when things don't work it is really frustrating since you just don't know what is going on.  I have a project (a web site) that was originally developed for VS2003 and ASP.NET 1.1. When I loaded this project on VS2005 (and ASP.NET 2.0), VS told me that it will migrate it to the new environment: it did a number of things, generated a migration report and created/moved files under App_code and such directories. I tried this process a number of times b...

Migration from .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0
Hi All, Well i hoped that the migrating went smoother then is does so far. I had a few problem which i could fix with blogs from other developers, but i didn't find a good solution for this problem. Somehow i get the following error: "Make sure that the class defined in this code file matches the 'Inherits' attribute, and that it extends the correct base class" Well i worked very good before the migration. Some advise would be very welcome! Regards,Dennis van de Laarhttp://dennisv.net/Don't forget to mark the most helpful reply/replies as Answer. Maybe this post will hel...

VS .NEt 2003/ .Net 1.1 issues
Hi, I have a couple of issues with VS 2003/1.1 development on a machine.  I have no problems working with VS 2005/2.0 on the very same machine.   When creating a Web Application on my localhost IIS install, as soon as the WebForm1.aspx is created I get an ExecutionEngineException in DefaultDomain and the IDE closes.   Thinking that this could be an IDE issue, I attempted to install VS 2003 SP1.  When I try that, I get a Fatal Execution Engine Error 0x7925dc14. I have googled that error and it seems to come up in the context of some other applications a...

.NET 1.0 vs 1.1
I am using DNN 1.0.10c. Whenever I make changes to the source code, I recompile it with Visual Studio .net and the .NET Framework 1.0. I also have Visual Studio .NET 2003 available to me. Is it safe for me to use this version of VS, as then I can take advantage of the 1.1 version of the framework? Or is DNN not 1.1 & vs2003 compatable? Thanks! I installed 1.1 as soon as it came out and use it with VS 02 with no issue to report. Recently I installed 03 and I don’t have any issue with that either. However, Colleague still runs VS02 so I am still running 02 on some of the pr...

What are the advantages of migrating applications written in .NET 1.1 to .NET 2.0?
Hello,Can someone tell me the advantages of migrating my current aplication which has been developed in ASP.NET 1.1 to ASP.NET 2.0? I have read and implemented some of the technical advantages that come with ASP.NET 2.0 and .NET 2.0. But how do I convince our customer that we should upgrade the existing application in production for a couple of years now to .NET 2.0... like the performance benefits we gain by doing that? Read that .NET 2.0 is a lot (around 40%) faster than .NET 1.1 and has all those performance enhancing features like the precompilation, enhanced data caching... in addition ...
