Debug Build vs Release Build in ASP.NET 2.0

When building an ASP.NET web app with VS2003 I was able to specify whether I wanted a debug build or a release build from either Build|Configuration Manager or using the drop down list on the toolbar. This is turn determined whether the DLL containing the code-behind classes contained debug info, or not.

Now that I'm using ASP.NET 2.0 under VS2005 this option isn't obviously available for web projects so assuming that I wanted debug info compiled into the assemblies containing the code-behind classes, am I right to assume this option is now determined by the

    <compilation debug="true | false"/>

element in web.config?

Thanks :)

That is correct. VS2005 knows nothing about the build type in ASP.NET. It is all controlled by the web.config file now. Check out the following link:

Differences between .net 1, .net 1.1, .net 2.0 and .net 3.0 #2
Hi, This seems to be a common question, but i havent got an answer yet:(Can, any one please explain me the differences between these versions.If you keep your feet firmly on the ground, you'll have trouble putting on your pants! There are too many differences for one email - - from 1.0 to 1.1 (not a whole lot of real change, other than fixes, at least compared to 1.1 to 2.0) With 2.0, there were many new declarative controls, with many new ideas added in With 3.0, it's a superset of 2.0 - instead of replacing the installation completely, it just 'added on' new functionality - I would...

mozip.NET 1.2.0 released: the Should Have Been 1.0 release
hi, this is version 1.2 of mozip.NET, a GUI (graphic) version of piaip's mozip command line utility. like mozip, it allows the user to add, remove and extract modules in the installer, and test modules integrity, all in a WinZip-like UI. finally, i managed to squash the stupid bug that prevented me from adding modules to the installer. it wasn't a problem with the zip library, but rather with the way i was calling the Win32 API. so i still use #ZipLib. this makes mozip.NET a complete replacement to piaip's mozip. in the past i thought that if i install .NET 2.0 it w...

PB 10.2.1 build 9004 vs Oracle client 10G (
Hi all, We are having an issue with Oracle 10G using SP's in RPC... Seems we cannot disable unicode in DBParm if we use DBMS=O10. Not even with DBMS=O90 The only way we can disable it is using DBMS=O84. Which is documented... The problem is that our sp's get extra garbage because of unicode. Any thoughts anyone ? GQ They shouldn't get 'extra garbage', the character translation is the responsibility of the driver. That said, there was an issue, where data binding could cause a problem. Check out the latest EBF and the DBParm ncharbind and se...

web.config problems when upgrading from .NET 2.0 Beta to .NET 2.0 release version
We uninstalled .NET 2.0 Beta and replaced it with .NET 2.0 release version.  And it messed everything up.  All applications now give weird errors indicating the lack of web.config files, despite the fact that they already have web.config files in place.  For example, the following error occurs even though the web.config file has <customErrors="Off">: Runtime Error Description: An application error occurred on the server. The current custom error settings for this application prevent the details of the application error from being viewed remotely (for securit...
