Visual Studio has detected that the specified Web Server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1. You will be unable to run ASP.NET Web applications or services

Hi All,

First post, be gentle :)
I'm trying to create an ASP.NET web application, but when I create a new project I get the following error.
"Visual Studio has detected that the specified Web Server is not running ASP.NET version 1.1. You will be unable to run ASP.NET Web applications or services"
I have googled and found the following answer.
I install ASP.NET again:
C:\WINDOWS\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v1.1.4322>aspnet_regiis.exe -i
Start installing ASP.NET (1.1.4322.0).
Finished installing ASP.NET (1.1.4322.0).
but I still get the same error.
when I open a browser and target iis -> http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx
I get a Modal Login box, so I think it has to do with permissions.
any help would be apprecaited.
Thanks,
Bm

Thanks for the amazing quick reply.

I've had a look at that page, but no luck
The problem being there is no "Web service extension" option in my IIS window that I've opened?
Maybe I'm running an older version of IIS?? It came with Win XP SP2 though...
Thanks,
Bm

How do I check which version it is?

inetinfo.exe version = 5.1.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148)
using help -> about on "Internet Information Services" under admin tools
Microsoft Corporation
Version: 5.1
InetMgr.EXE
File Version:    6.0.2600.0 (xpclient.010817-1148) (6.0.2600.1)
