Can I Run .NET 3.5 Webapplications in Windows Server 2003&IIS6.0

Got a silly doubt (But sorry to say that, Didn't get proper information while Googling..)..

I want to upgrade my .NET 2.0 Webapp to .NET 3.5..  But some of my friends commented that, "we can't run 3.5 Webapps on IIS6.0"..

Is that true ? If Yes, Is there any other Work around for that ??

Thanks & Regards,

No, it is not true.  You can run apps made with the 3.5 framework on IIS 6.  A lot of people think you can't because they can't find the option in IIS to run the 3.5 runtime.  This is because 2.x is still the highest runtime.

Thanks for your helpful answer James...

Yes.. You are right.. I too thought that, IIS6 will not support 3.5 ..

But I didn't understand the last sentence.. (2.x  is the highest runtime) ?? How ? Does it means, "3.5 Webapps also runs with 2.0" ??

However, Let me check once with my app, I will simply upgrade it to 3.5 and I will place 2.0 in IIS.. Let me see, What it will says..

Thanks again..

James is right. He means that we just configure the website to use ASP.NET version 2.0 in IIS when we deploy the ASP.NET 3.5 application.

After the installation of the 3.5 Framework, the System.Web.dll will remain version in the GAC.

So in order to run ASP.NET 3.5 on IIS, we just need to install .Net Framework 3.5 on server, and then configurate your website in IIS just you do with your ASP.NET 2.0 application.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Hi. I develop locally using web developer express 2008. I have .NET 3.5 installed on the development machine.I am trying to deploy to a Windows Server 2003 machine running.NET 3.0.Not surprisingly, I get an error about the strong assembly names referenced all over my web.config when I try to access the site on the production server.I don't think any of my code truly relies on .NET 3.5--it should all be compatible with the 3.0 framework. Here's my error message:Parser Error Message: Could not load file or assembly 'System.Core, Version=, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77...

Application created in new version of .NET (3.0 or 3.5) can use the library created in older version of .NET(i.e.-1.0 or 2.0)?
Hi All, I am using Visual Studio .NET compiler for compiling my application . We have plugins (as library) which the user can write by their own in .NET . We are building our code in Visual Studio 2005 but we have already some plug-ins which are written in previous versions of Visual Studio (i.e. 2002 and 2003). Is these plug-ins will work with the new build of the application or I need to build these plug-ins as well in Visual Studio .NET 2005. These plugins are created as library. Is their any differences between .NET 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 because of which the old libraries (created in o...
