SQL Anywhere 10 Server using NT Perfmon count "Comm: Free Buffers" (Server Number of free network buffers)

Our "Comm: Free Buffers" is 11 out of 630 "Comm: Total Buffers" is this kind
of low? Should we increae the total buffers? If so how do we do this? Thanks
in advance for your help.

The short answers to your questions are: No, No, and You can't directly.

The database engine (and client s/w) maintains a set of buffers that are
used for communications, and these buffers are allocated dynamically on
an as-needed basis. i.e. if there is a high demand for communication
buffers (due to a heavy burst of server/client traffic), more buffers
will be allocated.

The "Total Buffers" counter counts the number of total buffers that are
currently allocated, and will include all "in use" and "free" buffers.
The "Free Buffers" counter counts, well, the "free" buffers - i.e the ones
that are not currently being used but are in the buffer pool in case the
s/w needs another buffer "soon".

FWIW: The s/w caps the number of buffers that will be allowed in the "free"
poll and thus will free the memory back to the general memory heap when the
"heavy burst" of communications dimishes.

"Unable to Start Database Server" using SQL Anywhere 8.0
Hi All, Has anyone ever seen or encountered this error before. When using Sybase Central from SQL Anywhere 8.0, the creation of databases stops right at the moment of executing the creation event and presents me with the following error message; "Unable to start Database Server". When I click "Ok" I receive the following window with a JAVA "Stack Trace". Its a bit long but maybe informative, however, it seems like I'm missing some JAVA packages or classes. Can someone tell me if this is correct and how I can resolve this issue. At this point,...

Use "proxy server" and "Fastpath" option
Shaun, another point that isn't clear for me in the admin guide.. We have one PUS in our HQ which is doing subscription updates and which serves to schedule deployments and every other administrative task. In every location where we have bigger offices and user counts we have set up a "cache server" (patchlink distribution point). At the moment we set our main PUS as PUS settting for the agent and we use the "use proxy" option to set the "local" cache server. I think the fastpath server option is new...as we have many mobility users..wou...

Negative "free kbytes" and log "free kbytes" not applicable?
Just upgraded two very large servers (each with 60+ databases, one with largest at 13gb, the other with largest at 37gb). (Environment is HP-UX 11 - 500mb ram, kajillions of gb of disk space!) Upgrade seemed to go well despite the need for alot of page flipping in the Install manual but as usual, all questions were answered somewhere in the doc (thanks, Sybase!) However, now the new sp_helpdb reports negative values for the free space of on many of the device fragments for some databases. Also, all the log fragments for all databases now report "not applicable" in the f...

Is Microsoft free* elearning for Sql Server 2005 useful for learning SQL Server 2000?
I'm working towards MCAD and as elective I want to do the SQL Server course. The exam is on SQL Server 2000.  I was just wondering whether the online course that Microsoft currently have a available for free at https://www.microsoftelearning.com/sqlserver2005/default.aspx would be useful and applicable to SQL Server 2000, or whether it is sufficiently different product to make it confusing to use this as a learning resource. Also if anyone can point me toward any webcasts for SQL Server that would be great. I listened to Fritz Onion's 15 part series when I studied  for my ASP...

Synchronize "removing junk" with POP3-server when "leave on server" is enabled?
Hi there, I know the subject is a bit difficult to decipher, but in short what I think would be a nice feature is: When mozilla-mail has been configured to leave messages on server, I would want a way to (manually) instruct mozilla to scan my POP3-messages for messages that I have marked as junk in mozilla-mail, and delete them. That way I don't have to filter all the messages again when I connect e.g. through the web-interface for my account, or when I actually decide to download the messages at home... That is, I use mozilla from two machines, and I only want to delete ...

Getting "When connecting to SQL Server 2005 Error" using MS SQL 2000?
I'm new to using VS2005 and this is my first project connecting to our MS SQL 2000. App worked fine on my dev PC, connection to the same MS SQL Server. Is this a permission setup problem on SQL Server or does it really think it's connecting with a MS SQL 2005 database? An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server.  When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remot...

using "FOR XML RAW " in SQL Server
I have a datagrid that I bind with a dataset that gets filled via a stored procedure in SQL Server. It contains SQL like this: select * from users this works when I bind it to the datagrid. HOWEVER, when I change the SQL to return the results in XML, binding to the the datagrid results in an error. Here's the code: select * from users FOR XML RAW I'm confused because a dataset is supposed to be an xml representation of the data returned from the database. So, why would a dataset have a problem with XML data? Thanks, dextermDexterdexterm@mindspring.com...

"Server Name Already in use" in NT/IPX
Is there any way to speed up the time it takes before an NT Server box will allow a SQLA engine to restart under IPX. Sometimes I just need to restart an engine after it locks up or add another database to the engine. Real pain in the while waiting for the engine name to "flush" itself out of who knows where.
