Make DBValid safe to use while database in use

It would be great if databases could be reliably validated when in use (I
always thought they could until we had some issues recently and I see that
it is now documented that they can't).

The alternative of creating complex batch jobs to start a backed-up copy of
the database in read only mode and then validate it is far more susceptible
to error.

Justin Willey

From the ASA 9.0.1 documentation for the Validation Utility

Caution Validating a table or an entire database should be performed
while no connections are making changes to the database; otherwise, spurious
errors may be reported indicating some form of database corruption even
though no corruption actually exists.

Make DBValid safe to use while database in use #2
In light of discussions in the general forum can I re-iterate a request of mine from 2004: It would be great if databases could be reliably validated when in use (I always thought they could until we had some issues recently and I see that it is now documented that they can't). The alternative of creating complex batch jobs to start a backed-up copy of the database in read only mode and then validate it is far more susceptible to error. When to use ( and when to use ((?
I'm just not getting it. When do you use ( in a statement, when do you need to use ((, and is the space after either or both mandatory? For example, I coded this statement: if (( $_ eq $bad_guys_ip )) { more_stuff_here }; Why the two (( in an if? And why does it seem to not work when I miss the space after the ((? Thanx! Using Using
I have just completed reading a chapter in my book on performance. The books says to speed up performance on your web site you should use the using statement when opening connections. My question is how do you catch errors if you are using this as apposed to a try catch block.thanksBryan  Why would you use it as an alternative to a try/catch statement. Couldn't you just do something like  public void UsingSomeMethod() { try { SomeMethod(); } catch(SomeException e) { /// do something useful }}public void SomeMethod() { using (Something) { ...

bookmarks file used as database by typing tags into address pane. make it easier to move commonly used bookmarks to top
Name: Mark Abrams Email: mrabramsatsouthslopedotnet Product: Firefox Summary: bookmarks file used as database by typing tags into address pane. make it easier to move commonly used bookmarks to top Comments: I love the way I can tag bookmarks and bring up relevant saved web page addresses in the address window by typing a tag into it. My bookmarks rarely get used except for a few commonly used links that I keep at the top. If you could make it easier to move bookmarks to the top without scrolling all the way through them it would be helpful for lazy disorganized people lik...

Using aspnet_regsql to use a local project database
Instead of the default ASPNETDB.MDF, I want to incorporate the Membership tables into an existing local database within my project. When asked for the Server and Database, the default server gives me a "Failed to query a list of database names from the SQL Server." error. When I set the Server to: .\SQLEXPRESS, my database doesn't appear to be in the list, however manually typing in the database name (without the .MDF extension) seems ok. When I run the ASP.NET configuration, I get an error "There is a problem with your selected data store... Could not find sto...

To use or not to use Delphi
Sadly, it seems to me that there is a sort of race between the two threads, for and against using Delphi in new projects, with more or less the same users posting in both threads. Arguments are fiercely debated in both camps. Borland had their own vision. As a community, now that Delphi has changed ownership I believe we should try to be more consistent, more clear, and more articulate in what we expect from Embercadero in terms of Delphi. We can contribute to keeping Delphi alive and moving in the right direction. "Laurent Cocea" schrieb: > Sadly, it seems to me that there ...
