Primary key - foreign key

 Hello,
I've got a modeling problem betwin a conceptual model and a physical model
and espacially about the foreign key.

See below the illustrated exemple of the problem :

-Whether the entity ARTICLE with two informations : CODE & WORDING

-Whether the entity UNITE with two informations : CODE & WORDING

An article has necesseraly three unity, the unity of command, of storage and
of sails.

These three unity can be differents.

                       Conceptual model
phycical model

The generated physical model doesn't suitable me.

How can we recover automatically, in the physical model some significant
foreign key.

I would like recover in the physical model the three following column :

UNITY-COMMANDE

UNITY-STORAGE

UNITY-SAILS

On the other hand, I'd allocate some comment to the three relation and I
would like that they would be updating automatically in the three column
correspondentin the physical model.

Thank you.

Une solution est d'ouvrir la bote de dialogue des caractristiques

Keys, keys,keys...
Just installed PGP 6.5.8 and all is running fine, so far :-) Question: When I opened the PGP Keys window for the first time, apart from the *Create Key* wizard, there are about 50 odd keys belonging to various and sundry at NAI. Were these supplied for a purpose or only for illustration? Is there any reason they could not or should no be deleted? Question 2: I sent someone an encrypted test message using that person's public key. It went off fine except, I am left with only the encrypted eMail. What setting should I change in order for my eMail client (Outlook 2000) ...

Primary Key & Index on Primary Key Field
Adaptive Server Anywhere Network Server Version 9.0.2.2551 I found that a query was spiking my client's server's cpu and, after time seemed to be the culprit of a meltdown. After adding an index on the Primary Key, the issue seemed disappear. I'm wondering why and if I should be adding an index to all of my tables primary keys (I assumed this was done automatically by Sybase). Below is the query, then the Plan before and after the addition of the index. The major thing I see different is that there is no disk read after the index has been added. Select rss.Eve...

primary key or unique key
I have a table where my unique key has 12 columns. I would define it as primary key because this set is the unique way to relate record with other table. For DB performance it should be better define a primary key with a generator field and my key as unique index, or it is the same define my key as primary ? Thanks Adalberto Baldini I would use a surrogate integer primary key to avoid the twelve column foreighn key in the detail tables. -- Bill Todd (TeamB) This is an usefull way or a simply make up ? Primary Key Prob with SQL table innerjoin with primary key
Hello Exception Details: System.Data.MissingPrimaryKeyException: Table doesn't have a primary key. I have used Stored Procedure in SQL with innerjoin. multiple fields as primary key and primary key error message
Hello, I have a two-fold question, one of which is very basic, but I am very interested in feedback as I am fairly new to dbase design. I have a UsageData table with the following fields: Facility, UsageDate, ProductID, BegInventory, PurchaseAmount, EndInventory.  The user can only insert one entry per Facility per month (UsageDate gets set to mm/1/yyyy programatically) per ProductID - therefore the combination of these three fields is what makes that record unique, and together they serve as the primary key.  I have seen and heard that using multiple fie...

how to set primary key in datatable and find the record based on primary key
Hi all, I want to set primary key to my datatable and find the index of my record in my datatable based on that primary key. Can any one please help me regarding this? Data Key acts as Primary Key?
I have a details view that I am trying to update.  It is a simple contact form with a Primary key field.  When they user changes 1 specific drop down, it is supposed to email a notification to the new ticket owner.  However, the only way I know of to get the record data out of a details view, is to make it a data key name.  When I do that, I cannot update the record.  Is there some other way in asp.net 2.0, vb to update a field that is NOT a primary key in the database, and still pull that information out of the details view? This is my code to pull it out of th...

difference between a primary key and a unique key?
hello all sorry m asking Database Question .. m talking about SQL SERVER 2005  but i have bit confusion...  what difference between a primary key and a unique key?  if m not wrong  then primary key doesn't allow NULLs, but unique key allows  NULLs but in many searches comes that primary key doesn't allow NULLs, but unique key allows one NULL only. what this means 'one NULL only'?? according to my practical we can give more then 1 nulls... plz clear this point??? thaxhttp://developersaspdotnet.blogspot...

unique key vs primary key
Is it possible to create a unique key for a single table without using primary key. Will it cause any performance issue. What are the differences between unique and primary key. because both uniquely identify a record. thank you very much.. What backend are you running? With the NOT NULL constraint, UNIQUE indices allow NULLs. As far as I know a unique index and a prmary key are the same type of index. Actually, when you're creating a unique key, SQL generates a unique index for this column. The difference between a unique index and a primary key is fundamental; primary key...

Reference key & primary key
Is it always neccessary to have reference keys if a reference can be made. Suppose i have a parent table 'user' which stores the user information, and i have other tables all of which have the feilds create_user and change_user, which are populated when a record is created or modified. do i have to create these 2 references on each table with the user table. My system won't have any report or functionality based on the user. Secondly, is it necessary or is it a better practice to have a primary key as numeric as compared to varchar. regards sukhvinder On...

no primary key value for foerign key--error
What is the meaning of this error? How is it resolved? Jlicht wrote: > > What is the meaning of this error? How is it resolved? The error above means that you have referential integrity (RI) set up in you database and you try to insert a invalid foreign key. For RI, you always have two (or more!) tables: a master table (e.g. invoice) and a detail table (e.g. invoice item). A row in detail table is only valid, if the reference to the master table is null (as long as allowed by the field in detail table) or if the value exists in the master table. Example: CREATE TABLE Ma...
