Powerdesigner foreign key trouble

Hi,
I have a problem in a CDM with the link among the table that become a
problem in the PDM.
By example, I have to connect tre entity with relation one-many and in
every entity I have the same attribute, ex. CODE.
If I have to connect two entity to the third entity, but powerdesigner
on the conversion from CDM to PDM inserts yhe attribute CODE from every
entity on the third part and translate the CODE to %TABLE_NAME%_CODE.
I would to be one only CODE on the third entity and the code of any
contraints to be ...reference to only parent code.
Can anyone help me ? (sorry for my poor english)
Thanks

Simple thing to fix.
Actually, it isn't a problem that needs fixing, but something specific that
you need to clarify to PowerDesigner.
Specifically, when you have multiple paths to "CODE", you need to tell PD
which one to use. PD assumes that they are separate, but you know that
every duplicate CODE FK column is actually the same thing.

So, delete the additional %TABLE%_CODE columns.
You will be prompted to replace the FK with another column.
Select the original "CODE" column.

Does that help?

okay this is the issue When you generate the PDM from the CDM, PowerDesigner generates, using its own naming convention, the foreign key column that is placed in the physical model table - we want to have control over this column name ie: we want this foreign key column to be called f_key in our physical table. Please note we are not talking about FK/PKconstraints names etc, we are talking about the actual column name of the foreign key. We have searched through the definition file and cannot find where its being set. Or is this not possible to control in PowerDesigner and you have ...

Creating ALTER scripts for Foreign Keys in PowerDesigner
I know there is a setting in PowerDesigner 9.x that will allow me to Generate Database and have it only produce the foreign keys (without the Create Table scripts). I am looking for the generated SQL to be just ALTER TABLE commands that create the foreign constraint references. Does anyone know where I go to change the setting? Thanks! -Daniel In PowerDesigner 9.0.0, you must modify the DBMS file. Under the script\object\reference object, set the FKInTable option to no. In PowerDesigner 9.5, this setting can be set in the Database Generation window. HTH, Anthony Hill O...

Generating Foreign Keys in CDM
Hi, This I think is a simple question, but I have read the documention and tutorials and do not find what I need. I am using PowerDesigner 9.0, and my target database is Microsoft SQL Server 2000. I am creating two entites in the CDM one for reference data, a list of products and their atributes, and another entitty in which I want to have a foreign key created in the PDM when generated to reference one of the products. What do I need to do in the CDM to have the foreign key show up in the table in the PDM. I thought from the documention that it is possible to have the fore...

How to migrate PowerDesigner 6 to PowerDesigner 11
I am with difficulties "to take" models generated in PowerDesigner 6 for PowerDesigner 11 (evaluation). Already I tried to make the steps below, but I did not get success. Step 1 - The basic File/Open I chose diagrama.pdm file (generated in version 6) and To open. It starts to read the archive and finishing he almost gives to the error "failed you read the file". Valley to detach that the procedure was attemped with other archives (also generated in version 6) and I did not get success and that the same ones continue functioning in version 6. Step 2 - Co...

How to migrate from PowerDesigner 6 to PowerDesigner 10
I have several PD 6 models I wish to migrate to version 10 and have a few questions: 1) It appears that opening the model with the new version will automatically convert it, but are there any issues I should be aware of first? Is there a conversion program for changing from such an old version? 2) How do I migrate the Process Models? It appears I can open them but it appears the porcess flow charts are gone! 3) Are there any other pitfalls of which I should beware? Cool, even V12 can open V6 models. The ProcessAnalyst model probably won't open cleanly. Man, I haven&...

The why/when of Powerdesigner.
I'm having a hard time using Powerdesigner beyond just a data-modeling tool. I'd really like to understand how to use it as a full SDLC tool. It sure looks like it can, but I don't see how to really go about it, especially in light of the fact that organizations already have SDLC standards. How do I fit PD into that lifecycle? I'd really like to learn how to generate code from it, which involves understanding how to get at the metadata and visual basic and such. I used Erwin's macro capabilities and was completely blown away by the power. Now I see PD, and I...

PowerDesigner
We are currently running PowerDesigner 6.0.0 and 6.1.1.560 on Windows NT and are planning to upgrade to Windows XP in the new year. Are these versions of PowerDesigner compatible with XP or would we need to upgrade or apply patches? They are not certified, but there shouldn't be a problem. Of course, you really should upgrade anyway to take advantage of the newer functionality. -- Michael F. About PowerDesigner
is PowerDesigner included in the enterprise version of PowerBuilder 6.0 or 6.5? if so, which CD is PowerDesigner in? PowerDesigner is part of the EAStudio package but not the PB stand-alone package. I believe that is still the case even today with PB8. If you get EAStudio, you get PB, PowerJ, PowerDesigner (remember that with PB8, PowerSite has been rolled into the product and doesn't exist on it's own any more). If you get just PB, you get just PB. steve [TeamSybase] Dear Steve, Now I find out EAStudio. I can see the following options for installation: Power...

Upgrade from PowerDesigner v11.1 to Powerdesigner v12.0
Hello. upgrading from PowerDesigner v11.1 to PowerDesigner v12.0 requires to uninstall v11.1 and then install v12.0 or is there an upgrade software installation ? Thanks. Best Regards. Marcello. V11 and V12 can coexist on the same system. If you leave V11 on during the V12 install, it will give you the option to retain the V11 settings in V12. This is a good thing. Then you can unintall V11 later. -- Mike Nicewarner [TeamSybase] http://www.datamodel.org mike[at]datamodel[dot]org (can you figure what to change?) Table design question (to foreign key or not to foreign key)
Our application is a message board and is full of messages, threads, and forums. A message is an individual entry (like the one I'm typing now ;)). Our software gives the user the ability to upload a single file attachment to each message. I can think of a couple different ways to design the two tables: message( messageid numeric identity, attachmentid numeric null, messagetext text, other, message, stuff... ) attachment( attachmentid numeric identity, title varchar, other, stuff ) or message( messageid, messagetext text, other, stuff ) attachment( messageid numeric foreig...
