Print a 2 page report on both sides of a page

Hi,

Management has come up with a 2 page report that
they want to print on both sides of a single piece
of paper. They are going to buy a printer that
will automatically cycle to the second side. All
of the data will be on the front page and
statements of rights and obligations ( all text,
no database involvement) will be on the second
page. I presume I'll need 2 dataobjects, the
second with a piece of dummy information that will
be hidden. Does any one have an idea as to how to
implement this printing methodology.

We're using PowerBuilder 7.0 and MSSQL Sever 2000

Thanks in advance.

Duane,

The printer will take care of the duplexing, so what you are trying to
accomplish is to print a 2 page report.

How much data will there be in the first (database driven) page? If
that will always be a one page report, then it is as simple as
printing two datawindows one after another.

Or do you have more than one page in the first report?

You could also use the nested report datawindow to print them in one
swoop and also display it the way it's going to be printed.

- Create a single column external datawindow with a numeric or int
column. Let's call it page_ind

- In the datawindow data insert 2 rows and enter values of 0 and 1.

- Create a group based on the previous column. Select New Page on
group break

- In the detail band insert two reports on top of each other. One
containing data and one the "statements of rights and obligations"

- Set the visible expression on each one based on the page_ind. One
will be "page_ind" the other "1- page_ind"

If you create a wide report where items fall outside the default print
margin, then those items will print on the back of the paper. In other
words, anything that shows on 'Horizontal page 2 of 2'.

That's multi-dimensional thinking! You take what is normally is a
nuisance and turn it into a feature <g>

It is true that when people lose some senses the other ones sharpen! I
should drop that PowerBuilder thing and lock myself in a room with IM.

I bet you could survive for years on an isolated island armed only
with Infomaker and some dental floss. <g>

Isolated island sounds wonderful.
IM is good for your creativity. No scripting, so you have to exploit the DW
to the max.
Truth be told though, this tip I picked up from the newsgroups long time
ago. So I can't take credit for it.

It just means that one or more items on the righthand side of your main dw or nests exceed the right margin. Even if an object is set to invisible the printer will react to it...hence the extra page.
