We use a function f_build_date

string s_return = upper(string(now(), 'DD-MMM-YYYY'))
return s_return

The expression in the definition of s_return is evaluated at compile time.
See "Initial Values" in help.

We use a "constant" object. It is simply a NVO (we named ours "C") with
instance variables declared of whatever type we need. This object is in its
own PBL which is part of the library list for the compile, but doesn't need
to be deployed with the application. (It could of course be in any PBL in
your library list, but would add to the size of the PBD (or EXE) that is
deployed.)

Our definition for version is below:

CONSTANT String VERSION  = 'Version 7.01.1 - Build ' + String( Today() ,
'mm/dd/yyyy' ) + ' ' + String( Now() , 'hh:mmam/pm' )

Now anywhere in the application that we want to display the version you
simply reference C.VERSION. As long as the object "C" is re-built during
the deploy process (full build, or specifically regenerated) it will have
the date and time of the build (by the way Jerry's function has the same
limitation, it will have the date is was last regenerated, which may not be
the date the application was built). If you don't want version, just leave
out the part of the string with the version in it and name the variable
appropriately.

Because this is a constant, the compiler puts the actual string value
everywhere the application references it which makes it much faster than
calling a function. The only disadvantage is that Datawindows can't
reference NVOs. So for our datawindows that needed the version, we created
a function, that returned the C.VERSION (by the way function calls from DWs
significantly slow retrieval times, don't use them unless absolutely
necessary).

By the way our "C" object has lots of constants in it not just version.
Standard colors, Border sizes, Mnemonics for special data values, logos,
copyright etc., anything that would make the code read easier, or is a
standard, that we might want to change from time to time in only one place.
For example setting the background color to 79741120 is not nearly as clear
as setting it to C.ButtonFace.

Hope this Helps

Server Date & Time vs. Local Date & Time
I have the following code (which some members assisted with) and it works great locally... It takes the date and time and formats just the way I want:  e.g.:  10/28/2008 13:58:44 becomes 102820080158 (which is what I want) But, when I upload the app to our server the date pulled is:           10/28/2008 1:59:37 PM As a result the date skips the formatting and does not work, so how can I code this so the date/time will be the same whether its local or on a server, and I have adjusted the regional settings to match - and same issue...

How to get powerbuilder library version, date-time stamp at run-time?

We would like to get version number of compiled powerbuilder libraries (pbd's) at run-time. I don't know if pibbles compiled in dll format have advanced features (as regular dll - where right clicking on it and selecting properties will allow user to see version number of dll). Anyway, compilation of pibbles in dll format is not an option for us. I would like to see if anybody came across a solution and would like to share it with me. I ...

Is there a way to determine the date my PowerBuilder application was last compiled?
