A SQLServer request resulted in a bad return code..(PB6.5, MSSQL 6.5&7.0)

I'm getting this DB error message when I'm executing a stored procedure in
a cursor from Powerscript. The OPEN works fine, but when I do the FETCH, I
get this.

What causes this? I'm using the MSSql server Native driver, even the EPF
version from build 580. It happens for all versions. Is there a DBParm
setting that I need to change? I tried playing with a number of parms,
namely Async, CursorScroll, StaticBind, nothing seems to work.

Thanks very much in advance.

Does it happen for all stored procedures? There's a Technical Document on the
support.sybase.com website that addresses calling stored procedures in MS SQL
Server. Frankly, I don't think it will have an answer for you, but I would
check there first and then consider opening an issue with Technical Support.
If this were something on SQLServer 7.0 alone, it might be a compatibility
issue, but if it's failing with 6.5 that's something we should know about.

What is the Document number? Or the URL? I did several searches and did
not find it.

This happens for 6.5 (sp3-5) as well as 7.0, with all versions of
PBMSS60.DLL that I've tried. Also it seems to be limited to any procedure
that returns a result set that's processed in a cursor. Those that don't
use a cursor have no problems.

Where is the Sybase document/whitepaper on the compatibility issues?

We are upgrading our mission critical PB 6.5 application's database from MS
SQLServer 6.5 to 7.0 and I am also trying find out if there are any known
compatibility issues before we do this.

Powerbuilder 6.5 & SQL-server 6.5 <> 7.0
Hi everyone, I'm using PB 6.5 with SQS 6.5 Everything is normal until I port the program build in this environment to a similar environment with the only difference that the database is SQS 7.0 This database is slightly different - in some tables, the fields are larger than in the SQS 6.5 database (but the same type - char). When the program retrieves rows in that environment I get the error message 'Data conversion resulted in overflow ...' I have several other environments with sqs 6.5 with the same difference (larger fields) where the program doesn't rep...

PB.6.5.1. or 7.0 & MSSQL 7.0 overflow error
In an aplication made with PB 6.5.1 or PB 7.0. & MSS SQL server 7.0 we have a problem when we do "getchild" in a datawindow and after that, we do "insertrow" into the same datawindow. The message error is this: "Select error: Data-conversion resulted in overflow". We can not change this order because our application is too big and there are plenty situations like this. Is there any setting or somethnig that can solve this conflict without change the order? Thanks in advance. The problem was the spanish version of MS SQL Server 7.0. With the...

PB 6.5 & MSSQL 6.5->7
I have several heavily used and widely distributed apps that use ODBC to connect to MSSQL 6.5. I would like to upgrade my database to MSSQL 7. Obviously, it would be great if I could just turn off the old server and plug in the new server (same name, ip address) and have the apps connect to it with their current setups. This doesn't seem very likely. What would you suggest as the best approach? Thanks for your suggestions. Jeremy You will have to have a test server to do this for the first time. Weather it will be smooth or not, it depends on three major factors: the ...

Powerbuilder 5.0 in SQLServer 6.5...........
Dear Sir/Madam, I am writing to you about the problem on connection between PowerBuilder 5.0 and MS SQL Server 6.5 via Database Painter in PowerBuilder 5.0. When I tried to connect to a database, the connection was successful. And I used "sa" to connect. But when I tried to retrieve data from system tables or newly created tables. An error message was displayed to me. It is "<Column-name>'s data type is not supported". I checked that the database repository tables were created already. Thanks, Martin Yip ...

5.0 & 6.0 to 6.5 upgrade
We currently have two node NW6SP5 cluster, one NW6SP5 non-cluster, and some NW50SP6a servers. We plan to upgrade the 6.0 servers to OES NetWare 6.5; migrate one of our 5.0 servers to newer hardware and remove the others. Currently one of the cluster servers is the master and SLPDA. To introduce OES NetWare 6.5 to the tree, what is better to do first: *migrate the 5.0 server to a box running NW6SP5, make it master, then do an inplace upgrade to OES NetWare 6.5, then do inplace OES 6.5 upgrade to 6.0 cluster and non-cluster servers? *or migrate the 5.0 server to a box runn...

UPDATEBLOB in PB6.5 vs others(6.0 & 5.0.03)
I got a question about the UPDATEBLOB statement. Database is SQL Server 6.5 I noticed that the Help section for UPDATEBLOB under PB6.5, it stated that Autocommit must be set to TRUE before calling the UPDATEBLOB function. Well, in the PB 6.0 and 5.0.03 Help, there were no such statements about this. So my question is: UPDATEBLOB function differently under 6.5 and others pertaining to the Autocommit setting? What prompted me to this is because we have an existing live app running under 5.0.03 doing a UPDATEBLOB with autocommit set to FALSE and it updates fine, but when I migrated to...

[PATCH] 5.6.0 & 5.7.0 VMS TZ fix for VMS6.2 and earlier
I created this patch over a year ago, but it seems to have gotten lost in the cracks of the various version changes. This is a patch only to vms/vms.c, so only affects VMS systems. Some background: VMS systems traditionally have run on "local time". Starting with VMS ~6.0 there has been some rudimentary UTC support added in the OS, as well as having TZ definitions, but those changes didn't make it into the C run-time library, where the time() function still returned seconds from 1-jan-1970 0h [local], and gmtime() returned a NULL pointer. Wrapper routines were wr...

PowerBuilder Upgrade 5.0 -> 6.0/6.5 for PowerFrame?
Has anyone upgraded PowerFrame (Metasolv's old framework) from PB 5.0 to PB 6.0/6.5? Did you run into any major problems? ANY upgrade advice (PowerFrame or not) would be appreciated. Should I just wait for 7.0? What's the latest on its release? Please respond here or email to eleuschner@levi.com. Thanks in advance, Ellen (The last living person not using PFC. IT'S NOT MY CHOICE!) Ellen, Have you tried calling MetaSolv? I know that they dropped support for PowerFrame in favor of Cornerstone but they may still be willing to help. Rey Bango Team Powersoft.....

On second look, the timezone rule only appears within UCX SET/SHOW CONFIG TIME. There is no logical for it on VMS 6.2. Any idea what else sets SYS$TIMEZONE_DIFFERENTIAL? It looks like it's properly configured in UCX but the logical is...

ASA and PowerBuilder 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0
I am currently running PB 5.0 with an Oracle 7.3 database. However, there is a great demand for our remote users to gain access to the app. Therefore, I was looking into using ASA to deploy to our remote users. The problem is that stored procedures are not supported with the run-time version of the database engine that gets deployed with the deployment kit. My question is: Does PB 6.0, 6.5, or 7.0 and/or deployment kit allow the run-time engine to support stored procedures. If not, what are some alternatives? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated. Thanks. >My ...

Concurrent perl 5.6.0, 5.6.1, 5.8.0, and 5.8.0threaded
Hi, So, I'd like to have multiple versions of perl installed on my system, for testing stuff, poking around, etc. It's not really that difficult, actually - you just arrange that they have different @INC directories (or that they overlap in the ways you want them to), and you make /usr/bin/perl point as a symlink to whichever version you want to use regularly (probably 5.6.1). Here's what I think I'd have, creating a few fink packages to manage things for me: * /usr/bin/perl5.6.0 - Apple's perl, unmodified, @INC is: /System/Library/Perl/darwin ...
