Opening a window from a running application on another application

Hi! An answer would be appreciated...

* Is there another way to open the windows that belongs to different application (executables/DLLs) other than executing a DDE call from a calling executable (by having the launch pad executable serve as the "client" and the executable of the different applications being the "server" to establish the DDE communication so that windows that is contained within the executable's DLLs would be opened) ?
* Someone suggested of having an OLE... How does it work if lets say I'm gonna opening a window from a running application on another application?

Thanks.

Hi,

This has to be handled by the 'target' application. You can use DDE indeed
or send a message to the application, but the application it self should
handle this message/event and open the window. AFAIK, I do not know of
another way.

Advice: I think for any exeutable program you can use OLE
Look up : "oleobject", "olecontrol", "activate" in PB Help, it will give you some more input on how you can use OLE very effectivly

How to either open a particular application or open a particular window of the same application
I'm sure this a FAQ, but I've never done this so it is new to me. I have an application, written in PB but shouldn't matter, that has a window with a resultset. When a the user double clicks on a row within the resultset I want to launch another PB application passing in the claim_id from the row, and if the application is already running then I want the application to open the claim window using the claim_id passed in. I'm guessing to do the first part would be simply calling the RUN command with the clai_id as a command parameter. run "c:\apps\btoclaim...

Run PB application from any another application
is it possible to execute and pass a value to a Powerbuilder application from any other application ? any input is greatly appreciated. If the other application has the ability to start applications. To pass a value, you can add command line arguments to your run script, look at commandparm() function in PB for getting those values. You can also use the windows SendMessage API call to trigger events on windows/application. <Julie> wrote in message news:4048e90b.6e7e.846930886@sybase.com... > is it possible to execute and pass a value to a Powerbuilder > applicatio...

You will need to use the FindWindow API to get the handle of the main window of the application you want to "talk" to. -- pbm_hopethishelps, Roy Kiesler [TeamSybase] Sybase Develop...
